Does anybody take Tai Chi? What kind of shoes do you wear?

I just started ... the studio requires footwear but what they sell is way over priced for the quality (good price for lessons, they hammered me with the uniform costs, whatever). Anyway, I could use some footwear recommendations/retailers.

I'm looking for a bricks and mortar store, I'm a tough fit. I need to be able to try them on and I don't have the patience to deal with shipping back and fourth.
