Or should he stfu and be happy?

LONDON (Reuters) - A British man who went on a wild spending spree after doctors said he only had a short time to live wants compensation because the diagnosis was wrong and he is now healthy -- but broke.

John Brandrick, 62, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two years ago and told that he would probably die within a year. He quit his job, sold or gave away nearly all his possessions, stopped paying his mortgage and spent his savings dining out and going on holiday.

Brandrick was left with little more than the black suit, white shirt and red tie that he had planned to be buried in when it emerged a year later that his suspected "tumor" was no more than a non-life threatening inflammation of the pancreas.

If he can't get compensation, he is considering selling his house or suing the hospital that diagnosed him. The hospital has said that while it sympathizes with Brandrick, a review of his case showed no different diagnosis would have been made.

Why should he stfu when there was nothing wrong with him to begin with? they changed the course of his life on the basis of their mistake.

So he should have hoped to be terminally ill instead? They didn't make him sell or give all his shit away, so should they have to pay for it all? I don't really have an opinion one way or another, but I definitely don't think he should have to pay for any of his medical bills since they got the diagnosis wrong.

Terminally ill? wtf, theres nothing wrong him, never was and probably never will be.

This was a effectively a fantasy emating from a huge mistake. You can talk about second opinions but they're not forthcoming in the UK as we have a national health system with little or no private healthcare.

He should get full damages for medical negligence. Ultimately it won;t be the doctors who have to pay, the NHS is taxpayer funded.

I don't feel sorry for him.. that's not a smart thing to do..

I know, but I imagine most people would just be thrilled they aren't dying, not sure what else would matter at that point.

forthcoming or not....what did he have to lose by seeking one?

he's an idiot for not getting a second opinion.

thrilled for a while, then happy for a while, and then completely pissed that the doc put him through it

alot of people dont get to do those things EVER because they did not get a warning that they were gonna die.

I feel bad for him ; but I dont think he has much of a case. we are all going to die. At least he got to cross a couple things off his list early. many dont get to do that.

If I had to pick life or being broke (but having spent it all myself) I would pick just being broke...

At least he got to enjoy what he did have, and a sudden death did not take that from him or take him from his family. He should count his blessings.

2nd opinion. And yes it's possible even with a national healthcare program (2nd and 3rd are possible in Canada). So that guy is a fucking idiot.

hes a moron but at the same time he got fucked over...

he doesnt deserve compensation but the hospital or doctors in charge of his case deserve to lose something
