Do you exaggerate your height?

HansNZ

New member
I am 186cms - that's a little over 6'1".

I have noticed that most people add one or two inches to their real height. I have had guys shorter than me tell me they are 6'2". The thing is most of them genuinely believe it.

So many people don't believe me when I say I am 6'1". They insist that I am more like 6'3". I think this is because either most 6'1" guys claim to be 6'3" or guys who are 5'11" claim to be my height.

I am very happy with my height. I am as tall/taller than all but a few, so I feel no need to exaggerate. But even as a tall person I am aware of the emphasis that society puts on tallness in males. So many guys under 6' seem to have a real hang-up about this. There seems to be a mystique about being a six-footer.

Totally right. I'm 6'4". Everyone says stupid shit like "have you grown since the last time i saw you." They find it hard to believe.

I'm 5'7...and yes I often wish I were taller. But I never bluff my height. It would be ridiculous for me as I'm a shorty.

I've got a great body and am very good looking, but damn, I wish I were 3 or 4 inches taller:(

I'm 5'6.5 but I say I'm 5'7 because I actually was before I had my first child. He did a number on my back and now I'm actually .5 inches shorter. But I'll get that fixed eventually.

I swear all men that are 5'9 lie and say they are 5'10. My hubby is not 3 inches taller than me but he swears he is.

5´10, i wish i was taller. But at least i´m not pathetic enough to exaggerate my height or wear those ridicolous boots that add an inch or so.

Im 5'8" 210lbs, I wish I was just a hair taller, like around six feet, then I wouldnt look like such an stumpy ox

I'm a short 5'5" and wish I was taller. People always think I'm 5'7 or 5'8", but that might be cause when I was younger my mom made me always stand upright w/ my chest out.

When I was younger and first got my driver's license, I thought I would grow to be 5'7" so I put that down my license. Several yrs later when I had to renew my license, I put down 5'5" since I hadn't grown. The lady at the DMV looked at me strange and said you've shrunk by 2". I explained to her that I thought and wished I would have grown taller. There's no point for me claiming to be taller than what I am.

im 5'7" and as you say, height varies because ive seen some folks who are shorter claim greater height, and they always try to justify their height by "making" me out to be taller...people also think im 5-9, but i think it's that posture thing and they slouch, andi've always had military poise (best way for a short person to grow i was told, now its just a part of me).

i do wear boots sometimes, maybe because i hate my height in a small way, (but rarely nowadays, like now im in sandals) if only because i've been told i'd look much better if i were, say, 6 feet by "well meaning" ladies.... which aint gonna happen...but its no biggie anymore for me ... we all have things we'd like to change, and things we're thankful for ... i know guys who are 6-2 at my gym who say they'd sell their soul for my physical endurance and my bench press (which for a guy who is just beginning is pretty impressive)

i guess it might be like when women say they are 36-24-36.... i've seen women who aren't within 10 inches on all three make that claim....

we all like those "ideal" numbers i guess ...

i'm about 6'2" and have been this height for years. especially when i was younger it was so cool, 'cause all my buddies were still short. i don't exaggerate my height, even though in my country, 6'2" is not considered tall at all.

Dont think I do....I will give the figure of right at 6'2" - that is with average shoes b/c that is how 99% of the people will see you.

lol @ Bronzed - height doesnt matter when you are horizontal - congrats on the baby as well...

20 years old and 5'5", not much chance of growing into the 5'7" that my license says :(

Oh well, at least I'm taller than my dad or his dad.

just a shade over 5'10, wish I was 2-3 inches taller. I got the short end of the stick, my brothers are 6'2 and 6'1, and both naturally well over 200 pounds. and theyre both younger than me...the fucks.

This is actually funny. This thread made me go measure my height. I'm 5'9" but I always thought I was only 5'7" and have always told people I was 5'7".

and people always said to me that there is no way I was only 5'7" when I told them. Guess I have been dupt(sp?) by myself.

6'1" here. Liscence says I'm 5'10 and 170 lbs. :D

For the last few years, I've always told people I'm 6' on the nose. However, I was measured the other day and it seems I'm an inch taller than I orinally thought. Cool. :)

hehe, I thought I was about 1.5" shorter than I am for quite a few years, I just assumed my height at the end of high school was it, but I still grew some more in college...

I read that the average height for Dutch men in their 20s and 30s is 6 feet. That is really tall. The average height in NZ is only 5'10". In the UK it is about 5'8".

hansnz: 186 = 1.86 meters
1 meter = 39 inches
1.86 x 39 = 72.54 inches
72.54 in = 6' and 1/2 inch
am i wrong?

I calculated it like this:

186cms divided by 30.48cms (the number of cms in a foot) = 6.102 feet.

Times this by 12 inches (12 inches in a foot) = 73.23 inches.

6 feet = 72 inches. That means I am 6 feet and 1.23 inches.

yes you're right HansNZ. the average height for adult Dutch men is 183 cm. (i guess thats about 6 feet, maybe a little bit more). that's not a good thing though:( i believe Holland is the country where the average height is second to largest in the world. or something like that, i don't know for sure.

Yep, only the Nilotes in central Africa are taller on average than the Dutch.

I am 9'11" tall, 10 foot in my shoes. Once during a basketball game, I fell into the stands and accidently killed 50 people.

I'm 6'2" maybe 6'3" that was measured awhile ago, and I'm only 15 (almost 16) so I'm still growing.

6'6" is nuts for a population average

I'm a little over 6'2"... but a bunch of my dumbass friends tell me i must be taller than that because they're "6 feet" tall... when of course they are really 5'11" or 5'10"... everyone who isn't wants to be 6 feet tall.

I'm not sure whether that is the average or not, but it is a common height among this race.

i am about 5'1o-5'11. I'm not short but I feel like it sometimes it is rather annoying. Anyone else feel like this?

I've spent a lot of time in Russia, and I think 5'10"- 5'11" would be tall over there. It would be the relative equivalent of 6'1"- 6'2" where I live because the average height here is taller. I don't feel short.

I stand 190-193 bare foot. im not sure what causes this large difference, but its somewhere around there every time.
I didn`t grow in years. i was a HUGE 14 yr old.

thats 6"3.5 on average btw.
Im not sure if i will still grow. Id like to, and i sure am eating enough to ;)
I turned 17 last week. likely for me still to grow?

Measure yourself when you wake up in the morning. Most people shrink 1 or 2 cms during the day.

I would think you'd grow at LEAST one more inch if you are only 17. But if you haven't grown in years I think at 190cms you have nothing to worry about.
