i was wondering about the weight belts... do they really help your lower back or what? i have never used one before... i see a few people with them... i was just wondering if i should get one?
what enrage said. lose the belt and build up your spinal erectors and also get a good ab workout in the process. just maintain good form and don't let your ego try and lift heavier than you can and you should be ok.
I do. I have a strong back and abs, but I want the support for certain things. I'll put one on for deads, squats, heavy DB shrugs, BB rows, and standing BB curls.
first , they do help. second , I wouldn`t use them if you haven`t used it before. Stick to the correct form , as far as your workout weight increases your back will become stronger and it`ll be your belt.
Never for the reasons mentioned above. I see on guy in my gym who needs a couple of guys to pull the belt as hard as they can to get the belt on as tight as possible. After about five minutes of straining the belt is finally on and the guy proceeds to do standing military curls or calf raises.
nope, got a brand new inzer that i used a couple times and realized it was stupid to use it. 4 years later....strong back and core. i dont need a belt on ANY lifts, even my heaviest. i know how to stabilize my midsection and create interabdominal pressure by drawing IN my midsection and not pushing OUT against a belt.
i love seeing guys who need a belt for CURLS! lol. maybe form needs to be addressed instead of weight. even my heavy days, i dont sway enough to even remotely feel like my back is working. LOL. ah well, those are the guys i just smile at and warmup where they finish.
I don't understand some of these guys in the gym who think they need a freakin belt for every single excercise. I wonder if these guys where their belts when taking a dump.
I do not use a belt on any lift. Lifting without the belt strengthens your midsection. I have had back problems in the past, a I want to do everything to strengthen it. However, I don't do deadlifts to avoid injury.
No belt. I used one when I first started training. I quickly learned that it was not necessary and broke myself of the habit. I have been belt free for three years now and I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support.
I find unless you are using over 80% of your max weight you shouldn't use a belt, over time the reduced stress in your back will amke your back and abs significantly weaker than your legs, this will cause even more back pain or heavier reliance on the belt.
Never even put one on untill a bud and me dressed up as Hanz and Franz for Halloween a couple years ago. Haven’t put one on since, although after my last deadlift day I’m thinking about maybe trying one.
