Do they make a generic Propecia?

My hair is getting too thin. I don't want to shell out 50$ a month for the pill. Have they made a generic yet?

There are some liquid versions of Finasteride (the active ingredient in Propecia and Proscar) out there if you do a little hunting, for a much better price.

get Proscar, same ingredient (finasteride) but in a 5mg tab; take 1/4 tab daily; *much* cheaper than Propecia since a box lasts 4 months and costs about the same...

Thanks a lot! Will a doctor give you a prescription for Proscar for your hair?

I've heard of a couple (on the boards, I have no clue who they are) that said their doc's did that, the upside being your insurance may pick up the tab since Proscar is for BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia; swelling of the prostate); more than likely it would depend on your age, family history of prostate cancer, etc. on whether you'd be able to claim it on your insurance, but if you're paying for it yourself, I'd convince my doc to do it so I could save some money :).

You can always get it from an online pharm too....

Tex: Thats exactly what i did and now my insurance pays for it all.

There is currently no generic finasteride available in canada in case any canucks were wondering.
