Do muscle stimulators work?

I have a muscle stimulator (the type you used to see ads for on TV) that I bought very cheap.
It has several settings.
But if you put it on sustained contraction at highest level, muscle contracts so hard that it really hurts. Sometimes you cannot use the highest settings because you cannot tolerate the pain.
If the muscle contracts so hard to really hurt, shouldn't it be strong enough for muscle to build?
What is your opinion?

i don't know about all of that shit. It would be nice if it did though, you could just sit on your ass and work your abs, I hate working them.

If it worked well, everyone would just use electric machines.....

anyway what those things are really useful for is for muscle injuries where the surrounding muscles tighten up. I remember I had to have one of those machines on me all the time when I tore my hip muscles (at least they always put it on at PT)

Well, if it tore your muscle, then it is effective enough.
The only problem was that you used it in a wrong setting.
