you know, when you work to a certain goal or poundage then give your body a month or so break, or only try to lift heavy while on cycle, and just lift enough to maintain while off.

if if you stop lifting heavy post cycle, your gonna loose all your strength and your mass
if you only like looking good while "on" then i don't understand why your cycling at all if your just gonna loose everything when you come off

I practice a fairly strict periodization program. It's not about going heavy for a bit then taking a month off, or even "just lifting enough to maintain." It's about varying training protocols in such a manner that the greatest net physiological adaptation can occur. A common periodization cycle for building mass includes lifting quite heavy for a phase, lifting heavier the next phase, and lifting even heavier for the phase after that! Oh, then start back at quite heavy again. :)
Often, a "transition" period is used after many months of training. This is a week, maybe two, that you take off, or do very light exercise.

Periodization can be tailored and applied to many applications a zillion ways.

I am sure you know how easy it is to overtrain, what if you are overtraining and need to take a good lay off, and want to lift without going real heavy, but still hold on to gains,is it poss.?
