Do any of you guys... "Cut your own Hair?"

Do any of you guys cut your own hair? Years back, I had bought a Wahl Home haircut buzzer with the clips, and other grooming stuff, and have been cutting may own hair ever since. I have a few other buzzers now, and have really gotten into barbering my own hair. I usually like to keep it real short. I have found a place that I can get everything the barbers get, and for cost. It's great. I always liked to have a fresh haircut, and usually give myself a trim about once a week for matinience. Though it is work, I actually enjoy being able to cut my own. Not hard or bad at all. I can't remember the last time I have been to the barber...

Wahl, Oster, Andis, Pinaud Clubman, are just some of the name brand good professional buzzers and suff...

Where I get my stuff: (great thing it's local, driving distance, 10 minutes from my house)

I tried that once. I didn't go well. I wound up shaving what was left off. Since it was in the middle of winter it left my unwilling to try again. I use my clippers for body hair now.

If I had a "buzz" cut or shorter I would definately cut my own.. Once the hair problem starts I will cut.. Now I cant do the fades and stuff barber can

I actually got pretty darn good at it. Fades, blends, layers, ect. I can do it all. Granted, it is scary to have to "practice" on yourself at first, to not screw up, but after a while, it is a nice thing to be able to do for yourself. Be prepared to screw up at first. I remember I had,....went baldy for a month before next cut.

I got sick of shelling out ten dollars every couple of weeks at the local Cost Cutters, so I just decided to go with a buzz cut and do it myself.

Not hard to do a simple single-length buzz yourself. I would prefer an actual haircut/style, but it seems my tuition doesn't cover weekly haircuts.

I get my hair cut only every 2-6 months, so I don't mind paying $13 or so to have it done.

I trim spots here and there myself though.

yeah two weeks on the dot here too. Its hard enough to shape myself up, but to actually give myself fades.... no way.

Well. Maybe you can cut MY hair.

Still, can you post a pic of your own hair? I keep mine cut short but not a buzz cut. Faded on the sides and blocked/tapered in the back.

Not that it matters anymore. I am at USMC OCS in June and the haircut is called a 'high and tight.' While the first one may be free, future ones cost $5.50. I would like to try and cut my own and it doesn't SEEM like too difficult a cut.

I'm having a hard time putting my pic in a gallery. Only shot I have of my hair now...Oh..well. If you want it synpax, I will mail it

body temple what kind of mirror setup do you use when you cut your own hair?

like Wynn said, I got some hair clippers and tried to do a fade, and wound up 2-blading my whole head.....it wasen't pleasant

I use 2 mirrors. I use one decent sized handheld with one hand, and use use my other bathroom medicine cabinet mirror for the other. I have been cutting my hair while i am in the shower. Of course the water is off, and the shower head is detached, hanging by my feet the whole time. I find this way, not hard, and a quick clean up.

Chewy,

Yeah, when I first started to do my own hair, I did mess up sometimes, but it is not that hard or impossible to do tour own. And, when I did mess up it was minor, nothing crazy. Just take your time, and get out the clips you are going to use, and set them down in front of you beforehand. Some people say "Why bother, to do your own, then..." but I enjoy to cut my own regardless. Check out the clip attachments you have, and be sure to "use" the clipper setting lever as well (on the buzzer), when doing fades. Try to get the closest attachment, after the other one when blending. But at first, taking your time is "key" here. I have found, the shorter your hair is, while fading,...you can use more pressure on the buzzer, and keep it closer to your head while fading. When your hair is longer, you want to stay straight withe the buzzer touching (still cutting your hair) but with the top part just a little bit off, and almost parallel to the floor. This way cutting gives a better blen for longer hair, since the hair on the lower part of your head (sides) were to be shorther, and not such a "Hard" blend.

Hope I helped....gl

You guys gotta take before and after shots.. The concept of anyone cutting their own hair baffles me.. I never think the barber does a good enough job let alone myslef
