DNP Users - WARNING

OUCH! I was considering a cycle but this poor kid took on 600MG for 4 days and died... serious stuff....

FYI: Warning issued by New York State Health Commissioner. Pertinent text is listed below.

==========================================================================================

STATE HEALTH COMMISSIONER WARNS OF DANGERS OF WEIGHT LOSS PRODUCT

DEADLY DINITROPHENOLS AVAILABLE THROUGH INTERNET SALES

ALBANY, NY, August 10, 2001-- State Health Commissioner Antonia C. Novello today warned against the use of products containing Dinitrophenols or DNP as a supplement for weight loss. The warning results from a report to the Department's Pesticide Poisoning Registry on the recent death of a Long Island resident who had reportedly used DNP for four days.

The young man's death was reported to the State Health Department by the Long Island Poison Control Center, which indicated that the individual apparently ingested 600 milligrams of DNP a day for four days.

DNP is an agricultural pesticide (a herbicide) but is not registered for use in New York State. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, it was sold in the 1930's in diet pills but was banned in 1938 because of severe health effects. Dinitrophenols are toxic to the liver, kidney and nervous system. The chemical causes hyperthermia (increased body temperature), dehydration, tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), restlessness and manic behavior and convulsions which typically signify an immediate life-threatening intoxication. There are anecdotal reports of other deaths from DNP as a weight loss supplement.

Although DNP use in diet pills was banned in 1938, it is currently being marketed and used by body builders, and is also advertised and marketed on the Internet. The extent of its use is unknown at this time.

The State Health Department has contacted the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to explore ways to warn consumers about the dangers of DNP, to identify product names under which it is being sold and to dissuade its further use. The warning also will be sent to DNP web sites identified by the Department, body builder web sites and body builder magazines.

Shit. That sucks about the kid dying. I think 600mg/day for 4 days is WAY too much for a first cycle anyway, and who knows this kid could have been like 150lbs...

Putting this into perspective: If that same kid had gone out and drank a bottle of whiskey he'd probably have died too right? So should everyone stop drinking alcohol then?

I have to say Cuts, I understand what you want to say, but I think that is not fair.

That situation is very tragic and I think anyone using the stuff should take major heed especially with regard to dosages.

I mean, some side effects is bad, but Death takes it to a whole other level.

True... people have DIED drinking alcohol, people have DIED doing all kinds of recreational drugs, hell, people have DIED drinking too much WATER... all of these people were being irresponsible and using the substances in ways/amounts that they were never intended for. So why give DNP a bad wrap? For every one story (tragic as it may be) like this you hear about, there's 1000 other dudes out there using it safely and effectively that no one ever comes to know about.
I don't mean to be insensitive... I truly sympathize for this kid and his family. But I don't think we should over-sensationalize this now... that's the media's job.

I'm with Cuts.

Two unfortunate consequences of this kid's misuse of DNP:
1. death
2. responsible users of DNP may be restricted

It really pisses me off when people use emotion and social convention to take away others' rights. Alcohol is legal because of social convention. When people drink, they also typically conform to a group or are inducted into some kind of organization. It's like a disease. Because of this it is legal. AND I CAN'T FVCKING SMOKE A PHATTY OR BUY RELIABLY PURE AMPHETAMINE IN THE SUPERMARKET??? WHEN I DROP ACID, MUST ALCOHOLICS SELF-REIGHTIOUSLY DEMONIZE ME???

That kid was a fvck-up and it's his fault that he is now dead.

I have done DNP before and I am still alive. Why? Maybe I am lucky and it is not my time to go...yet. Or it could be that I was responsible and did research about how to use such a dangerous substance. One thing I learned is that you start out low i.e100-200mg for 3 days to access your tolerance and see if you have any allergic reactions and then move up your dosage every 3 days till you fell you are "comfortable." I believe that this was the guy's one flaw. Like everyone else he wants a quick fix and figures if x amount works then 4x must work 4 times better. Just like ephedrine, some brilliant person figures s/he can lose alot of weight fast by swallowing the whole bottle. Then they die from a heart attack and the FDA says "Ephedrine is dangerous and should be taken off the market." BULL SHIT. Abuse of anything can lead to bad results, its not the drug, its the ABUSE OF THE DRUG. I am truely sorry to hear that another person died b/c of DNP but I believe that it could have been prevented.

With sympathy,

Chuck

If you are using it and DONT know how dangerous it is you are an IDIOT (who doesnt deserve to die) but definitely should not be taking DNP to begin with

Yes, just like the boy who flew that small plane into the building in ?Florida? and killed himself in the process. He was on accutane and one of the sides of that is that it could cause depression. Now the kids mom is suing the compnay that produces accutane b/c the kid supposedly did it b/c he was depressed. WTF? I guess accutane whould have a warning label on it that say"caution: can make you fly a kamikaze mission into the side of a business and say it was to help out the Taliban.

Why I posted to Warning

I posted the warning as just that, a warning on use... I agree that he probably didn't start out slow or lower dosage than he did but I was blown away at it only being 600mg. I mean I've been reading these boards for awhile and I know if I do decide to try a cycle to start at 200mg to assess the situation but I also have read post from guy doing 600,800 and even 1Gram of the stuff a day! That's physco in my book... just a fair warning... just like guns don't kill people, people kill people with guns.. my message was intended to demand respect for DNP.. I've read the other post warning of death etc with high dosage but i was shocked to see one happen at what i consider a moderate dose as i read on these boards....

peace...

I could be wrong, but I have read many threads about that incident where the guy was using Crystal and drinking.

LOL. In all seriousness though, i think solidspine meant something like kidney failure or damage to the internal organs and not just a freak accdent that took this persons life.
