After going 6 months without deadlifting (I was convinced they were making my glutes too big) I started doing half deads in the rack. Worked up to doing 765 for 5 rest/pause reps. WHen I went back to full rom deadlifts I found that I could no longer handle 585 for a double even though I've gained a considerable amount of lbm. For 2 weeks in a row I could not break 405 off of the ground for more than a double...grrrr.... The problem seemed to be my setup. SO I decided to switch to 25 ibs plates. My third workout with the smaller plates, which require me to start much lower was yesterday and I managed to get 445 (16 25's and the bar) for a triple and 495 for a single (didn't try more than one rep). Hopefully within a couple of weeks I'll be able to switch back to the 45's and handle 585+.

Thanks Hammer, of course the other bodybuilders at my gym all wonder why I care how much I deadlift... most of them are high volume/high rep guys. They also wonder why I'm thicker and harder than them with barely 3 years of training under my belt and I use half the doses they do in my cycles... could it have anything to do with double a fair amount of doubles and triples on compound movements with heavy ass weight? Everyone wants to get big and ripped but no one seems to want to lift heavy weights...

Seems like you are definately on the right track..

I'd be interested in seeing your entire week's workouts...
