At what vertebrae correspond D10, D11 and D12 disks ?

First of all Disks are no named separately like the way you named them, they are name by the vertebrae the are inbetween. So lets say you have a herniated disk in the Thoracic spine it might be called, Right Posterior lateral disk herniation of T6-T7 disk. The 'Right" means anatomical side of the disk, posterior mean back side. Lateral means away from midline and T6-T7 means the disk inbetween those Vertebrae

I have had a fracture of the vertebrae

all I know is that it was at the D10, D11 and D12 level .....

You might have heard your doc wrong because there is not vertebral level that is abbreviated D, but since Thoracic has 12 levels I would assume he meant a fracture of T11 and T12. Most common fractures occur on the anterior side of the body or the Spinous process get s astress fracture

I have cracked (not herniated though) discs between L3 and L4, L4 and L5, and L5 and S1. I think squatting, deadlifting, GMs, etc are making my back stronger - they haven't bothered me in months. And I was afraid to do these exercises for years :(

Ahh Back problems,..know them well. I am 35 and as of last Jan 2003 I had been diagnosed with Chronic Degenerative Disc disease. What took me to the Doc in the first place was numb toes and pain in my right leg not to mention my back. They took x-rays and then recomended an MRI (kewl thing if yer not claustrophobic) I had at the time; L1 torn open L2, L3, L4, T1, T2, & T3 herniated, The rest of my discs look black in the MRI; Doc said it was because there was little to know fluid left in them and since it was a degenerative disease that he would not recomend surgury. Asked what to do and the Doc said hit the gym and get your backs supporting muscles (core) back into shape. And after a long series of Steroid shots in my back (That really sucked, even while knocked out and with an epideral) I hit the gym hard, after 3 years off. Doc discouraged Squats and Deads big time.

I was and still am determined not to let this thing effect me. Lost 37 pounds of fat and am now in the best shape of my life,..and yes I was scarred to death of Squats and Deads but am now doing them and loving it. Have never felt better!! On my last week of 5's in the HST program right now and my back feels awesomely huge!!! At 6 ' 3" and now 210 I am maxing my Squats with 285 and Deads with 325 and looking forward to going through the program again.

Sounds like my man is learning, keep up the good work bro!!!

Yo, if you want we can meet up on Sunday to see that gym...I'm doing light, really light legs and cardio...HOlla at me!!!

I really can't understand why so many docs recommend against doing squats and deads !?

Do they really know these exercices ?

If so, what's wrong with them if you had a correct form ?

I guess they just have some stereotypes, just like they think steroids = bad bad bad

:(

since I started to do olys , pulls and squats my lower back has never felt better.
I used to get lower back pains from bending over, before doing any sort of weight training, not anymore

Backlash when you mean cracked you mean the nucleus pulposus is fracture??? Because most common injuries are the outer layer that slightly tears and cause bulges (herniations). I know that the nucleus can be fractured and with proper excercise the sheering force will be decreased on the sping by strengthening the core muscles. Most excercises done right are not too dangerous

Patsfan sunday might be a go but I might need a ride.

Anthrax- most docs only see people who have destroyed their knees and back (most often by improper form) so that is why they advise against it.

Deadlifts are dangerous aren't they? I mean, even if the back muscles are strong, but the spine will still need to support and results in shearing. Im saying this because after months of doing conventional deadlifts ( volume 6 sets of 10 reps, 70-85% of max), I now feel pain when lieing on my front ie proning. Also, when I arch my back to do wrestlers bridges. And also when riding the bicycle its painful. And the pains not a good one cause its not in the muscles but in the lower spine. So, be careful.

Im now gonna do higher wieght deadlifts but lower reps (3) and many sets. That way, I won't fatigue so easily compared to doing 10 reps. Plus I don't want my ass to get so big with the 10 reps, so doing 3 reps will get me strength but no big sized ass.. Does that sound good or what?

Thanks for reading....

Yes, the nucleus is fractured, not the outer layer, so I haven't actually lost any fluid. If the "crack" goes all the way to the edge of the disc I could be in trouble though.
