Dirty tools

1) Cleaning instructions are often inadequate, especially for cannulated devices.

2) Many devices require disassembly first for cleaning, which the central supply staff don't do.

3) Sterilization cycles are notoriously under-specified. Everyone wants a super-short cycle when in reality it takes some time -- especially with some of the larger sets.

But remember, this can't be happening. The FDA is on top of this and would never let this occur.

So why even bother looking into it if our government is there protecting us?

How much effort does it take to soak it in glutaraldehyde and throw it in the auotclave?

Crap... I thought this thread was going to show me how to disassemble a 90-lb pneumatic jackhammer to clean the concrete dust out of the recoil chamber....

So let's deregulate so even more people can take shortcuts...

A lot of cracks and crevices can't be reached by the decontamination unless the instrument is properly disassembled. Plus, a lot of smaller cannulated openings are easily obstructed. You've got to use a brush!

Why in the world would you ever deregulate?

The entire situation is mediated by trial lawyers anyway. Which one do you think manufactures respond to more? A sternly-written letter from the local FDA office or a $50M lawsuit?

C'mon... take a guess.

If you deregulated it, all it would do is save a few 10's of billions of dollars per year. Who in the hell could possibly want that? Think of the gubment jobs that would be destroyed. Oh the suffering is unthinkable!

Oh the humanity of it all!!!!!!!!!!!!111

I love watching people who bitch about corporations and the wealthy co-opting the government fight like hell to keep shoveling it more taxpayer cash.

They're no different that the enabling parent who can't figure out why Johnny won't get off crack.
