Well it is time for Bigdawg to get into the new age and finally get a digital camera.

The Bigdawg clans x-mas present is cash to get me one so I can make picture taking of my little angel easier.

What should I be looking for? How big of memory stick should I get? I don't need all the bells and whistles, just something around 4 megapixs, takes 30 second vids.

Prices are great right now and will be shopping tomorrow or next day for one.

snif I am going to miss those diposable cameras.

a 250 mb card is more than good enough,and as for the type of camera,I got a canon powershot its an awesome cam with 3.2 mega pixels,anything above a 4 is more for the professional photogragher

yea I just said 4 as that is the benchmark for 90% of the cameras now it seems.

honestly bro, a 5 mp is not much more then a 4 right now. i just got a 7.1 mp canon powershot g6 off of ebay for $424. you should be able to find a 5 mp for around $250 - $300. plus a 512mb to 1 gigb sd or cf cards are around $40 now, lots of storage

if you're taking digital pics of your daughter, i'd want the best resolution i could afford so i wouldn't be kicking myself in the ass later on

I have a Canon powershot also with a 256 card.
I lacks on close ups but, for general stuff it's awesome.
Tough as nails, pocket size and simple to use.
The Canon software has a short learning curve too.

Optical uses the optics of the camera lens to zoom in on the subject. IE when you push the button and zooms out. This is the true repersentation of the subjectt.

Digital zoom picks up where optical leaves off, giving an edcated guess with the pixel congiuration. :nerd:

I have a sony 5 mp, sometimes the pic is good sometimes it sucks.

I just suck at photograpy though

I need a point and click, maybe a poloraid would do.

avoid digital zoom like the plague. the camera crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. In so doing, you lose image quality. If you've been regularly using digital zoom and wondered why your pictures did not look that great, now you know.

I am the worst, that is why I need a digital camera so I can see the pics right away. Shit is always off center, shit is cutoff. Mrs. Bigdawg would always give me shit LOL. That is why I never owned a camera as I hate taking pics but have every reason to take lots now.

I will give you some pointers once you get the camera. I love love photography. Plus the pics of your little angel are so cute to see. Did she have on one of those little Santa dresses when you saw her? Those are cute as can be there were 2 little girls at my fathers side both in the same little dress so cute.

She didn't have her Santa dress on but she had on some nice X-mas jammies. Will show you the pics when I develope them. She was cute as hell!!

I have the SD100 and I LOVE IT!! Canon's are great little camera's software that comes with it is decent to.

I just bought the A610 from buydig.com and I love it.

A520 is supposed to be a fab camera as well - check out the site and their prices.

The 520 has gotten some great reviews, it was between that and the 610 for me and I found a decent price so I bought the 610.

I have the A85 which is pretty similar
but if you're new, not going to use any fancy lenses or anything then get the new

it's tiny so you won't mind carrying it around to kids' games parties etc. You might not use the 520 as much because it's a lot bulkier.

and, don't get less than a 512M card, Sandisk Ultra 2.

I won a Fuji Z1 it's great. rechargeable battery has long life. 5.1 MP. Optical zoom lens is built into the case, so you can't bang it & fuck up the camera. Has a closeup option. You can set it on auto & use it as a point & shoot, or adjust the f speed & white balance yourself. Recovery time is very fast, & start up time is like 2 sec. Takes 3 min video on high resolution, or 7 min on lower res., with a 256 meg card.

If you want to consistently shoot good pics, take the time to learn manual exposure settings...and get a camera that allows you to shoot manual.
