difference between reps

I really want to know why Im doing something before I go out and do it. SO with that could someone tell me why its more benifical to do 5x5 with me pyramiding up the weight instead of 3 sets of 8-10. Im not trying to sound rude theres not that much information out there about 5x5.

If you're just going to go into a gym and do 5x5 reps, there is no practical difference between that and doing 3 sets of 8-10.

When people talk about the 5x5, they're talking about a whole program that you follow, which regulates intensity (%1RM), volume (#reps), frequency (how often you workout), gets you using big compound movements and contains progression from week to week. It's following the program that makes the difference, not just doing 5 sets of 5 reps.

There's no lack of information about the program. Here's the mother thread: http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375215

thanks for the read. I'm quite naive when it comes to reps and stuff. The majority of stuff you read is 12 reps and so. But thanks.

That's because the majority of info out there is garbage.

If you want to learn I'd suggest reading some of the info in the Training Theory section. There are a few marked "essential" but read what interests you and if you spend some time working through it, you will really have a decent grounding and save yourself a lot of wasted time and effort. http://www.geocities.com/elitemadcow1/table_of_contents_thread.htm

I know we rag on Joe Weider from time to time on here but when I bought my first ever DBs they came with a 3x per week full-body workout. Annoyingly the workout required a barbell but I felt reassured seeing Weider's name plastered along the top and joined a gym. The workout had me working 2 sets of 6 reps 3x per week. I even had a slightly different set of 14 exercises each day for a total of 42 exercises.

So, thanks to Mighty Joe, I started with a six-rep scheme and saw that it worked wonders. After a couple of months the program had me doing sets of 5 and then a 9-rep backoff and that 5-6 rep-range has stuck with me ever since like a staple.
