Difference between oatmeal and quick oats??

What IS the difference. I read in a post the other day that you should eat oatmeal and NOT quick oats. When I got home, I realized that I've been buying quick oats. What is the difference and how important is it to not eat the quick oats?

oatmeal takes a bilt longer to cook than quick oats but they're both ok imo i think you're confused between the quick oats (rolled oats) and the packet stuff thats full of sugars and what not, u know the flavoured packet oatmeal

i buy organic oatmeal which cooks in 3 minutes in the microwave
 
The quick oats are a little higher GI because they are rolled thin so they cook faster, which in turn also makes them slightly faster digesting. I don't know if the difference is enough to merit worrying about is or not. Over the long haul it might make a difference.
 
plus they don't taste as good as steel cut oats (in my opinion) because they're heavily processed - they've already been cooked once.

People look too much into this topic: quick oats cook faster and are a bit higher GI than regular. Nothing to get hung up over, you can still use them assuming you mix w/ proteins and fats.

that's what i need to buy. The organic brand.
 
hang on a sec -

So if you DONT cook them and eat them raw, there is no difference in gI between them?
 
Whole oats are just that WHOLE. Quick oats are chopped up or proccessed so they cook a bit quicker. I think they taste better too and cook up thicker how i like it. Both are fine and have same cals. Quick will have slightly higher GI rating but not a biggie...goddamn....Not saying this is you, but some people will ask a question like this and have a Frappuccino with their "WHOLE" oats.
