Dieting After A Long Layoff- Where Do You Start???

Guys, what caloric intake should you start after a long layoff from the gym? I told my friend he should multiply his bodyweight x 11 and this would be a good starting point using the macros 40%Protein/30%Carbs/30%Fat. He's 29 years old, 6'3" 260-265lbs and 18-20%bf. His goal is 8-9% bf. Good advice?? What would you change??
 
IMO I would eat at maintenance a few weeks while you adapt to frequent training again and take advantage of the bodies fresh anabolic state.
 
So, have him start out at roughly 3300-3400 Calories a day for about 3-4 weeks. Then, gradually reduce it to 2700-2800 Calories a day, right?
 
Just working out again is going to be a major shock to his system.... I agree keep the cals higher then decrease after 6 weeks or so
