Did the time or a lifetime ban?

Hello All,

There's quite a fall out in UK athletics at the moment. Dwayne Chambers, who was given a 2 year ban after the infamous BALCO scandal has returned after his 2 year ban and produced some awesome performances. He has just won a place in the UK team for the Indoor World Championships. The big row now is about whether he should be picked for Beijing. Some of the hyprocisy is amazing considering the scandals that have engulfed UK athletics over the years.

My own opinion is that if you commited the crime, did the time, they you deserve a chance to redeem yourself. Others feel that the only way to clean up athletics is lifetime bans from competing for Britain at the Olympics. Whether its legally possible to stop someone from competing if they won their place fair and square is another matter.

What do you guys think? Lifetime ban or second chance?

Everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

I don't like that steroids and HGH has made its way into every competitive sport because now everyone has to do it just to keep up. Any athlete that comes along and performs well for now on will always be look at in wonder of "what is he on?"

However, if you do the time and come back and pass all the doping tests let him compete. The only difference in him and all the other Indoor Track Athletes is he got caught! At that level, I'd bet 90% of the athletes do it.

I totally agree , in second chances .

This is a touchy one being a track athlete myself and training on the same level as he is. I would say give him another shot. Most or almost all athletes on the professional level or post collegiate level are on something. Its just a matter or what. HGH is the biggest thing right now because of the detection time. But it is not fair these days hence the reason I am taking something. Now a days, you HAVE to take something in order to compete on that level. I have been a ntaural athlete for years and wondered how people could have all this muslce and train the same as I do. Not every one is genetically made like that. So I knew people were taking stuff. Ok, I am off topic....Yes give him another shot.

I'd love to see Chambers back in a British team. Ben Johnson was made a scapegoat for the blatent failure of athletics to rid itself of major drug use and unfortunately, the same here in the UK aplied to Dwayne Chambers.

Yea, your right. Would love to see him back out there. Its hard in our sports and there are so many people taking things that you have to do the same in order to be able to compete with these guys, let alone win.
