Did I overreact?

Did I overreact?

Some of you here know that I played football and my last season was in 2000,
I quit at the University ranks, from a nice career both in the US and Canada.

Some of you also know that I coach some little bastard of 15years old.
And last month we had the League Banquet for the All Star Players.
Even if I missed half of the season for work I went anyway.

While I was there, the league invited some college coaches to boost the players ego and give them false hopes they will play someday pros.
One of those coaches was my former Defensive coordinator and later on Head Coach when I played Collegiate level.

So has he arrived on the stand, I stood up and I let a big "Im not listening to that fucking looser". And I was out for 5 min, when I later came back he was still in his speech and when he saw me, he even lost his words.

Later on, the coaches I work with, told me, Hey man you really overreacted today.

Well here a story.

I was a Defensive lineman for a Montreal college in the highest ranks,
I had a defensive coordinator that totally pissed me off, and one night,
My middle linebacker called a play, he has a mouthpiece on and the guy has difficulties talking English so just imagine yelling it. I never heard the play. So the coach
Stopped the play, took me by the facemask and yelled "WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM YOU MORON", so I pushed him and yelled back "What your!".

Anyway after that night, that coach was not anymore in my heart.

So one night I went back to my old Midget team and I talked to a coach that at the time I just loved and would had die for. Anyway I told him all my frustration about my college coach and I left.

Couple of days later, I was called to my college coach office, and he said
'Well you are cut of the team", and then he told me everything I had told my midget coach. NICE they were buddies! OH MY.

He later on said," You are too small for Nose Guard spot'.
Well a 6'2" 330lbs 18yo player too small to play nose, he replaced me by a dwarf
Of 5'5" that went playing DIV 3 in Nebraska LOL, thanxxxxxx.

The week after he cut me, my mom went to a Chinese restaurant and she was sitting next to bunch of football players (college alumnus) and coaches, and the coach was there.

One of the Alumni said, why big J wasn't at the camp this week and wasn't even there at the start of the camp, so the coach replied. Oh big J thinks we suck and he transferred elsewhere,

Too bad for him my mother was just next to him, she stood up and gave him shit.

Because of my father I transferred later on to a school of little rich kids, a private school,
Where my teamates were more preoccupied about their GPAs, and their stocks instead of getting killed on the field.

Anyway, at the end of the season I had contacts with NCAA teams, on my curriculum
My previous team was mentioned, so many teams called my ex college coach and ask him about me. He replied he didn't know me, and I never attended the college in question.

He cost me a full scholarship at Indiana University and the only scholarships I was able to get later on were ¾ ones.

Even now, the guy is blocking my doors, and he cost me my NCAA career,
Yes I went to the NCAA, but it was already screwed from the beginning.

When I played against him, my former teamates were asking me, WTF you doing with
a white jersey on, I heard you transferred, and on the field I suffered abuses because they all thought I was a traitor but In fact that bastard cut me.
After the game when they knew I was with another college they asked the coach why I was with that college and he told them "J thinks we sux and the other team is better".
Well of course the rest of the season my former teamates were always on my back, until they finally hear the truth and some even apologized.
( OH yeah final score 53-3 for ex college ) :(

So here DID I overreacted

The guy destroyed my football career and even 7 years after he still talking shit about me.

i would have introduced a baseball bat to his face

Dont give me ideas, worst is that I am not the only one.

we are a couple of players in the same situation.

My friend Ralph by example, same thing.

I can write a book against him for sure.

no

unless some of the other coaches know him and will do what that last coach did i think you should explain to them everything including the wasted scholarships due to him

They all know the story, but my manners were not the ones of a gentleman!

Thanks God I calmed myself, or he would probably be six feet under now

We all have to blame somebody's for our shortcomings. Your's happens to be your coach.

If you were pro material... why didn't a scout spot you? And, if a scout spotted you, it wouldn't matter what your coach had to say.

No offense here 3... I've seen you around, you're a good guy... just another angle. Maybe it has an explanation, I don't know.

I forgot to mention.

When Indiana replied to me, is that I was a liar, and that I never attended my college
that I never existed.

Im sorry but I played at a higher level than 99% of the people I know, and I only know 5 persons who are pro now.

I don't look for someone to blaim, but that bastard did that to me.
and I am not the only one.
and yes scout spotted me and I went in the NCAA, but I transferred CIAU when my father die
to stay close to mom and even joined the army :S.

But because of him I had to work twice as hard,

wasnt fun when I get the letter from Indy, that said

Sorry we retrieved your offer, you never attended that college as student, and player, and the coach doesnt even know you, you are a liar, and dont even consider us anymore,
The guy fucked my reputation too.
As for the other school I had to call them and ask them to call the former head coach
that was now at McGill to tell them the truth. Complicated I'll tell ya

I not looking for someone to blaim for my football career at all, but this guy was the meanest person I've met with his ego power trip.

Like I mentionned Im not the only one,

That coach was letting players( fav ones) without any practices, save their asses because their brother or cousin were playing for Michigan or Arizona, wow they were accussed of rape, first degree assault on another player LOL, and was caught selling drugs, but he saved their ass, and let them play, while real players working their ass off were on the bench because they didnt any "connections"

and one of the guy im refferring about was playing at UTEP until he punched his DL coach, and was kicked out of the school :)

Well then... it sounds like you got fucked. :(

Sorry to hear that man... definately sucks.

However... always remember that things happen for a reson brother. You didn't play pro ball, but you did defend your nation in a war. I know which one you would have preferred, that's obvious... but it obviously wasn't in the cards.

I don't know what you are up too now career wise... but don't get down about the 'what if's.' There's something better out there than pro ball for you.

It may be hard to believe now... but if you continue to work hard, I know you will be able to look back in your life and see why going pro wasn't in your cards.

So... fuck him and make the best of yourself my friend.

if they knew what he did to you i doubt anyone would expect u to act like a gentleman

You know what, I would never swith that to play pro ball.

I have friends that play pro ball, two in the NFL, 1 was recruited last year, he in NFL europe now, and I dont want to be at their places.

Why?

Stress, the time and dedication they must spend for their goals, alway affraid of loosing your position, money etc... and alway fighting for your spot at training camp.

I was fed up with football during university, Yes I miss the people, hit, tackle, the game
play in front of thousand of people, the band, cheering. Hell it was fun.

But hell it was a sacrifice to do on other things, I wasnt going out because I was lifting,
I spent more times on a field than in a class room.
Years ago when I was a teen I thought I would like football forever and do that for a living, I changed my mind during university, school was more important and 55hours a week of football plus classes = hell

But man I miss going out with the boys and drinking.
:D

Shit 3... I've never been a football player or in a war, but let me tell you something... I can party with the best of 'em!!! :garza: :garza: :garza:

Glad you can see the other angle of the equation. Maybe that coach did you a favor. You may as well opt to think so... carrying around hate never helped anyone... just take a deep breath, think of the coach, say fuck it... and appreciate where you are, and what you've done. If he was honest on the paperwork, your life, and 3Vandoo as a person, would be much different. Maybe you would have gotten your knee blown out the first game. Maybe you would have gotten tagged, and land on your head, and never be able to walk agin. A little mello dramatic, sure... but you never know why things happened the way they did... you just know they did.

And if that doesn't help, you can always just sit around thinking how great it is that you weren't born as Kayne. :D
