Diabetes Tests

I know that this is the wrong board, but I have to get a reply ASAP.

My brother has had diarrhoea for the last 6 weeks with stomachaches & some vomiting. In the last 2 weeks he has been passing blood with his faeces. His stool sample was tested for infection & came out negative. He is due for a camera check up in 10 days time. From what I have read the symptoms seem like those of a stomach ulcer.

Anyway, we went to A & E today to try and get a check up sooner. The staff nurse there did a blood pressure check & also a blood glucose level check. The blood sugar level came up high. At the time he had just finished a lucozade drink. I did some reading and the indications for doing a blood sugar level test are after 2 hours of consuming a high glucose drink. The nurse knew that he had just had lucozade just before the test. Wont you expect blood sugar levels to be high within 30 mins of having a high glucose drink? After all, that is the purpose of the drink.

Could both be linked?

In the past 2 months he has done a 3-week steroid cycle with dianabol at 35mg/day. This was his third cycle.

Usually, they have you fast for 12 hours to get an accurate reading. How high is high? I'm a diabetic and after I eat it can be around 150. Diabetes won't put blood in your feces, that's something else.

Im not sure what value it was at. Wont you expect it to be high immediately after having a high energy drink. Bare in mind that he has not been eating properly for a while now.

If the drink had carbs in it yeah, it would be elevated. Pretty much that's how they do the real test. You fast for 12 hours, drink this high glycemic drink and they draw blood. They wait an hour and draw more blood then one more hour and do it again. Unless he had been fasting, they have no idea if his level is high or not. Unless it is like 500 or something crazy like that.

He does diarrhoe 20 times a day so he must be pretty dehydrated. Dehydration may cause high blood sugar levels. Dont u think?
I'm not too sure about that one. It doesn't seem like the two would be related (IMO). I'd bet his high blood sugar had to do with the drink. I don't know what a lucozade is, but I'm assuming it was not a diet drink and contained carbs.
