Ok it’s been quite a while since I posted anything here, but hopefully you will enjoy this one.
DHT one of the enemies, why?
Well one of DHT’s jobs in the male body is to combat excess estrogens. Ok you have heard of the Androgen Proviron and it’s ability to prevent Testosterone from converting to Estrogen, well DHT can do the same thing. That doesn’t sound too bad does it? Your own body trying to protect you from the side effects of excess Estrogen.
However DHT has some other nasty effects.
1.DHT binds to Androgen receptors 7 times more strongly than Testosterone, i.e. blocking Testosterone. This is really bad, especially if you are interested in Bodybuilding, DHT has no muscle building effect what so ever, and only slight strength gaining properties.
2. DHT can shut down your own Testosterone production more effectively than Estrogen, in fact estrogen has very little effect on shutting down your natural testosterone.
3. DHT increase body hair growth, while Testosterone has little overall effect on body hair growth. If you are injecting Testosterone and you experience a rapid increase in body hair this is a sure sign that your body is converting a lot of Testosterone to DHT.
4. DHT increases hair loss from your head.
5. Prostate cancer, well excess DHT is not just to blame for this, DHT, Estrogen and Cortisol all play a role in causing Prostate cancer.
Ok so hopefully you realise by now that high DHT levels in your body are not a very good idea, so what can be done about it?
Well Saw palmetto is of very little use against DHT, the reason it is used in the fight against prostate cancer is that it is supposed to block DHT receptors. However it blocks Testosterone, Estrogen and DHT receptors. What it does not do is lower DHT levels.
What can lower DHT then?
Proscar can lower circulating DHT levels by 60% - pretty good and it is becoming more easily obtainable across the internet as a treatment for baldness.
Aldactone can also lower DHT levels, but as it is a diuretic you need to be a little more careful with it, again it is also becoming more available as a treatment for hair loss.
So maybe your less than impressive gains on Testosterone have had less to do with increased Estrogen levels and more to do with increased DHT levels.
