designer glasses

funny that you mention this... yesterday i was at the mall and contemplating buying a $200 pair of gucci shades, but decided to walk around some and think about it before giving in. at one of those shitty little knick-knack stands i found some sunglasses that looked remarkably similar for $9.99. fuck that... i ended up not buying anything :).

I have a nice pair of rimless frames. They aren't a "name" brand, but weren't cheap. Previously, I had a pair of French Connection frames. They looked quite trendy, but in an understated way. Fortunately, my health fund covers the majority of the expense for perscription lenses and frames, so the brand and price isn't a big deal.

Are you talking about prescription glasses or sunglasses.

I have found more expensive prescription glasses to be stronger....more durable. My current pair cost $300, although the rims themselves were around $200.

it really depends. if you have to think whether or not you can afford them, then no dont buy them. if you have extra cash, i totally think they are good. I had some extra cash and i bought some really phat diesel sunglasses for like $170. They are really comfortable and look sweet. ive seen other copycats, but they dont look as nice. and dont fit so well.

Note that not all of the designer frames are high-quality. The most important thing when buying glasses is that they hold the lenses in the right place ie the focus of the lens should be right in front of the focal point of your eye.

Some of the "designer" frames are just plastic with no metal rods etc. Make sure the frames you get are strong enough for the lenses too - since mine are quite thick and heavy there are restrictions on which frames I can actually use. I ended up with the wrong glasses once and I ended up paying a LOT of money in docs fees to put it all right.

Finally, think of having a less trendy pair for driving in that have HUGE lenses so your peripheral vision is better - I find not having good side vision when driving a real bitch, but I don't drive often enough to buy a special pair.
