Deep Tissue Massage....

It's been recommended numerous times and I finally got around to trying it....over the last month I've noticed a big difference in my strength and I was a skeptic; I definitely recommend it.

For example, when I started I was doing 8-10 reps of wide grip benches to the clavicle with 245. Tuesday I was doing 8-10 reps of wide grip benches to the clavicle with 275.

My muscles also feel more "loose", best way I can describe it.

I used to have it done when I was stationed overseas (it was dirt cheap $5-$10 a session and that was when the juicy gurls were overcharging me)

It was great after running marathons. I never used it for weight lifting purposes but it sure as hell is very therapeutic.

I tried it once and I was sore as H&%* ,, I just stick to Swedish now
The next day is a bitch for the muscle group but it's easy for me to schedule sessions after I train a muscle group. I was amazed at how quickly it went from painful to relaxing during the session once the tissue released.

I've been wanting to try one a friend of mine swears by them. I have been trying to find someone whom comes recommended.

Java, does it really help, I stopped after the first session however how long did it take to relax you... do you think it has anything to do with tiring the muscle first in the gym?

What happens is those lumps you feel in the muscle get "released." Having them reduces maximal contraction. The reason I used my bench as an example is the fact it's my worst lift and to make a 30 pound improvement in a month in the 8-10 rep range is astounding progress for me. I heard about it almost ten years ago but it took me until recently to try it, the girl I'm dating is a chiropractor and insisted on me trying the deep tissue massage. I still won't let her adjust me.....

I definitely recommend it and I'm a skeptic. :)

Its one of the best worse things you can possibly do... I studied and do massage therapy and have also had the opportunty of getting my own deep tissue, and you will be sore the next day or two. But you will be thankfull for it in a couple days and going back for more.

btw... java... let her adjust you!

and that ava sucks!

I got her addicted to MMA...she's excited about the Ultimate Fighter finale on Saturday night. Unfortunately, at 88 pounds she taps out too quickly....

I love pick3... but I don't want to be subjected to his geighness

i cant stand them. i like the soft sensual kind. deep tissue causes to much pain for it to feel good. i felt all bruised and shit afterwards. you gotta be into S&M for that shit to feel good.

It is painful but it's not supposed to be pleasurable but theraputic. I've always had a high pain tolerance which is why i probably don't dread my sessions.

It is because your fascia has been loosened and stretched. A tight fascia is the major culprit in lack of muscle growth and progress. Too many people think it is the training they are doing, the amount of drugs they are not shooting or their genetics (which is not true as the fascia is adaptive over the years and not really genetically programmed at birth). But it isn't those in many cases.

I used to get it done twice a week. It is uncomfortable at first, but after the 3rd-4th time if it is still uncomfortable and painful it is either because you have bad therapist or you have trained the muscle(s) prior and they are still recovering.

As some of you might remember, the therapist that was doing me was a very good friend and he died a couple years ago, so I haven't been getting them regularly like that anymore. Now I only get about 1 per month.

I'm with you on the skeptic issues! I do not trust "back cracker's" either. Sorry, I know your g/f is a DCM, but, I do not trust 'em. :)

There is a guy down in Findlay who does this type therapy. He also happens to be blind-huh? Yes, he's legally blind! My brother- in- law insists that I should try it, as he has been doing it for over 4 months himself and loves it.

I may have to give this a whirl. Where you going to have this done, if I may ask?

Luckily, she doesn't pressure me to do an adjustment, apparently my spine, ribs and hips are all where they're supposed to be..... :)

Probably helps him do it better! My brother is a massage therapist and he notes that closing his eyes often helps him pinpoint problems faster with his hands. I LUV massage! Best one I ever had was a therapist who was also a black belt Muay Thai - that boy knew his stuff, it was almost an out-of-body experience!

Stefka, I still haven't figured out “touchless chiropractic.”

I never understood it either.
I think he waved his hands over people's backs and zapped them with psychic energy, or something like that.
Best job EVER.
