California Accountant Dies in Scuffle Over Strip Club Bill
Wednesday, September 06, 2006

LOS ANGELES — A 26-year-old accountant was killed in a scuffle over a $960 dance bill at a Santa Barbara strip club, authorities said Tuesday.

David Klotz, of San Francisco, died just hours after he and his friends went to Santa Barbara's Spearmint Rhino Adult Cabaret early Saturday to celebrate a friend's wedding, according to Lt. Paul McCaffrey, a police spokesman.

The cause of death was under investigation, but McCaffrey said Klotz died soon after a scuffle with the club's security personnel. A club manager declined to comment.

According to police, Klotz and his friends arrived at the club about 1:30 a.m., but Klotz soon left the others to go to a private room with one of the dancers.

Police said his friends had left by the time the dancer told Klotz he owed $960 for the 70-minute session in the private room.

When he protested and tried to leave a scuffle ensued, McCaffrey said. By the time police arrived he was having difficulty breathing, and paramedics were called. He was taken to Cottage Hospital, where he died.

Police said they are continuing to investigate how Klotz was restrained. They said a preliminary autopsy showed he had a heart condition and his blood alcohol level was .19. The coroner's office has not determined the cause of death.

Klotz's mother said her son had high blood pressure but she was not aware of any heart problem.

"He was a happy, smiling, wonderful person," Susan Klotz said from her home in Petaluma. "He was everybody's best friend."

Her only son was a University of California, Santa Barbara, graduate who worked as an accountant with Ernst & Young in San Francisco, his mother said.

"It's a complete and utter absolute waste," she said of his death.

Wow... $960 for 70 minutes? Let's say the average song is 3 minutes. That means 23 songs. Now, if she danced every single song, which I doubt, and the cost was 20 dollars per song, that would still only total $460. Sounds like she performed other services in the private room or was just completely trying to rip him off. I would think most strippers would get paid up front or they would get ripped off all the time.

Killing someone for $1000. What a shame, anyway.

spearmint rhino is one of the nicest strip clubs there is, and private rooms are no way it's only 20 dollars/dance. could've been $50 or $60. I hope to visit a spearmint rhino someday.

This guy that used to work for me spent $1800 at a place in Vegas once. He said she just dry humped him fo a 1/2 hour.

How classy of a joint could it be if they are killing people over a skipped tab? LOL.

Those rules are determined by local ordinance, so they vary from city to city. Some cities go so far as to require g strings and pasties and require dancers to stay pretty far away from the patrons. Others allow topless only. Some can go full nude but require that the girls don't spread their legs and that they have some pubic hair (no pink rule) Then, there are some that allow the girls to spread their legs and to have contact (lap dances). It just depends. And, before anyone asks, no I am not/was not a stripper...lol.

You can in Utah, oddly enough. The bar just can't serve alcohol. Jersey was the same when I was younger.

I think she had the drink in mind, but no friends entered the equation. I'm still kicking myself foe that missed opportunity. I met her in Ut when she was visiting parents. Filthy animal, she was.

Okay, then her friends can be "goldschlagger" and "Yagermeister" That way, they can sound like an Italian and two Germans. Then the strippers will think they are "cultured." LOL....most strippers are so dumb.

Don't get me started...

Just because they had a train run on them by an Italian soccer team doesn't mean they are "cultured". Bacteria cultures, maybe.
