Dealing with crappy neighbours

So we had these people move in next to us about three months ago. Have been getting along fine, nice people for the most part and we keep to ourselves.

Now that the weather is nice most weekends they are out in their back yard drinking and at least one night during the week. Hasn't been a problem until last night when at 11:30pm they decided to start setting off fireworks and one woman was totally wasted and screaming loudly (even though they were telling her to shut up constantly). Loud until 1pm even after I went out to ask them to please respect us and quit with the fireworks (they set off two more after I did this - loud ones). Oh, and their four year old granddaughter was out running around at 12pm - nice.

Best way to deal with this? Our property manager is AWOL so he would be no help at all. They also "party" with a couple from three doors down who are constantly over there. I know we're not the only ones pissed because on either side there are couples with kids. It's really pissing me off.

I have a feeling if I just try to talk to them they are going to tell me to piss off, although one guy is respectful and likes us. His wife is a fat nightmare who screams at the kids and drinks five nights a week (no job obviously).

Do cops actually come if you call them? My first thought is to start calling popo every time they get loud but I don't want to escalate anything because we have to live next to them. Anyone had to deal with this/had successful solutions?

And before you say it, moving is not an option right now.

I thought about that but it would also piss off everyone else who doesn't deserve it. We live in a row of townhouses.

Currently my neighbor from two doors down (no job, on disability) has been drinking for two days straight and is out there again. It's pathetic.

Because they are drunk and stupid? That seemed to be the answer because when I went outside and asked them to stop they all looked shocked.

You indicate you are Canadian so I have no idea about your laws. Generally here in the US the "popo" will come if someone is lighting fireworks at that hour. In fact, in most places fireworks are illegal for the layman to use. You can buy them legally, the catch is you can't use them. In my hood the police will come over a noise complaint. They will just ask the people to keep the noise down which usually takes care of the problem. I would be ashamed if I made so much noise that my neighbor had to come out and ask me to keep it down.

I let 99.99% of people slide on everything and save the conflict for real issues......

if I was you Id let it slide for 1 month, if they continue after that then say something

I would try talking to them one more time. Your anger is getting all pent up. Ask them nicely to cut out the noise once it gets past 10:00pm.

Don't be afraid to let them know you'll be calling the authorities with a noise complaint. At least that way you warned them.

Then, follow through with it if necessary. I can understand being drunk and not realizing how loud you are (been there!) but when I was asked to stfu, I surely did.

Whenever I move somewhere new and meet the neighbors I usually give them my phone number and ask them to call me or stop by to talk if there are any problems, so that they don't think calling the cops are their only option.

I don't see why this is a big deal. The next time they have a party just invite yourself over, get really drunk and act like a douche bag. Eventually they will keep the noise down every time they have a get together out of fear that you will invite yourself over and douche everything up.
