Deadlifts

with much deliberation after reading quite a few pro deadlift posts. I think it's time i add this in my gym routine. The only prob i have here is what day to put it on so i don't overtrain that much or have inefficiencies. After all the deadlifts works many bodyparts. my routine goes something like. 5x5 big lift 2x8 and 2x10 additional lifts for each bodypart.

chest/tri
upper back/bi
shoulders/traps/calves
legs/lowerback

any ideas what's a good day to enter deadlifts into my routine. what's a good rep/set for it.

Deads on back day every other week is working well for me.
Do all my cable rows and pulldowns etc one week then deadlift week i just do some chins @5 sets then do some deads about 4-5 sets getting heavyer each set.

I do deads with back on Mon, then squat on Fri, gives me lots of rests in between, my body responds well to this.

thanks a lot guys i did deadlifts for the first time yestarday. I maxed at 495. I think i found my lift. WHOOOOO
I don't know if i have good form or anything, but this is def going in my routine. My lower back is killing today, so aren't my traps too. i did 5x5 with 315 and it was really a hard workout i got a lot of cardio goin on with it i was a sweaty mess. they are brutal just what i needed. Makes me like the gym even more.

JV, that's a bunch of weight for a first-timer, even for a 20-year-old back. Be sure to watch your form. Don't get carried away bro.

One thing I like to do is to alternate workouts going heavy on deads. If I squat heavy one week, I go lower weight on deads, then do the opposite the following week. Doing heavy deads and squats reek havoc on the lower back.

I do partial deads on back day to hopefully take some of the stress off of the legs to avoid overtraining them, seems to be working so far...

yeah im gonna get my brother to teach me correct form and read in my lifting encyclopedia about it. so i don't mess up my stuff, btw my waist swelled up today to 33" that's about a quarter of an inch difference from about 2 days ago. it's odd how it does that knowing that most bod builders have small tapered waists. it must be swelling or something who knows.

That is a lot of weight!!!

I'm concerned that the sharp pain around the right hip is caused by nerve impingement or something. It is a pain unlike any other I have experienced lifting.

do em on your upper back day, easy to overtrain them. You will find that your other back exercises will feel light after hoisting 500 or so. I would work sets of 3, dont take them to total failure. I do 135-10, 225-6, 315-3, 365-3, 405-3, 455-3, 495-3 and I am done. My last set is a good comfortable 3 reps. Now I just need to get ya in a powerlifting event. Fun to deadlift in front of a crowd. Saw a 795 from a 220-pound man this past weekend. Best of luck,

thanks a ton heavywear im going to intricate that routine in my back lifts

I assume it's a good idea to keep the rest of the lifts besides your deadlifts on the downlow

i weigh in at about 184-187 right now im 19. I could probably drop to around 181 if i dieted maybe even the 170's i would be very very thin, im 5'10 and did some cardio. my brother just told me that was a weight class. but i need some time to see where i go with this. get up in the 500's. what do ya think the top tier deadlifts for that class?

I am totally clueless about powerlifting events. My bench would probably kill it all my long arms can only max about 225 or so. actally up until about 2 months ago i couldn't get up 205.

blah maybe i should start posting in the powerlifting board

I would like to say I started oding deads this past back day for the first (serious) time, and I love 'em. I maxed out at 255 for 8 reps with close to perfect form. if my legs were shorter, I would have perfect form.
