Deadlifts

I do them for every back work out.

I warm up then I start off with:
1 set 315 for 10 reps
1 set 405 for 2-3 reps
then 2 sets 1 set 315 for 6-8 reps.

BUT - when I do the heavy set (405) I do a rep then put the weight on the ground. Then start from zero, no momentum, I do the second/thrid/fourth rep cold - about a 2 second delay between the reps. Is that a bad idea?

I do it beacause I fucked up my lower back a while ago. I had chiro work on it, now I am 95%. I do it to make sure I feel good after every rep. Am I actually hurting my back and MY LIFTING PROGRESS?

I appreciate the help.

For FORM sake I start cold every rep too. I find that I get sloppy and end up stiff legging it if I dont start from zero as you say. NOW, as far as deadlifting every workout, I would say - if you're training natural - that every other week would be better. They are so hard on your recovery if you're really pushin them. My $.02

You don't think it's a good idea to do Deads every week? I've been meaning to incorporate them into my workout, and since I work back once a week I was planning on doing them then.

Every week has worked real well for me. My deadlift routine is pretty extreme though. It definately does impede recovery eventually and can effect other lifts as well Im sure. Depends how much you put into them and how good your recovery is. Good thing about deadlifts, atleast for me, is that I dont lose strength when I take long lay offs and can actually come back stronger. I cant say the same for anything else.

Starting over for every rep is a very good idea. Keeps form correct. Also keeps you from trying to add a negative to the lift - deadlifts are supposed to be concentric only.

What you are doing bro, is in fact the correct way to perform deadlifts. The alternative is bouncing the bar off the floor.

Deadlifts can be done every back routine if you are alternating between light & heavy. If however, you are going heavy on Deads every routine, then you are definitely doing yourself a diservice by doing deads with every back workout. Twice per month, is what Ed Coan recommended to my friend(who is friends with him), if you are training heavy for strength/size. If you are like me, and do them light and at the end of your back routine, then every week is fine as they aren't as taxing.

agreed, definitely. doing them every week will affect you negatively in the long run (provided you do them heavy every time)
