Deadlift Videos

So I finally got a chance to deadlift, and not feel like complete shit. Last time I maxed, I was feeling sick, and felt like my head was going to explode when I tried to deadlift. So I had to call it quits when I worked up to 525.
Today, I finally got a chance. This morning was kind of rough, and I felt like I was goin to vomit. I met this new girl last week, and told her that I was probably gonna take the day off. She told me that she thought that I should go, because it would probably make me feel better (THAT MAKES HER A KEEPER!) First couple of lifts felt a little heavy. 455 felt akward. 495 felt better, and I was starting to get pumped, cause it came up quick. Then I moved to 525, it flew up. I knew I had 545 in the bag, and that went up good. Said fuck it, and loaded 565 on the bar. didn't even think about the fact that it was going to be a 20 PR over what I did before my slipped disk in March of 2005. All I thought about was getting my hands on the bar, and pulling the shit out of it. I gripped it. Locked myself into position. And then pulled. It was feeling good till about halfway up, when I felt my momentum slow a bit. Locking it out was a bitch, and you can see, by the small hitch. I need to work on my hip strength. This will help me with lockout. Hhere are the links. They might take a minute or two to load:

On a side note. Hit another PR on Bench on Wednesday, with a 375 Raw bench. Just barely missed the 385. Struggled with it just off my chest. My spotter nudged the bar a little, and I pushed it up. It will only be a matter of time before I get 405 RAW.

you don't seem to have much if any bend in the knees...

i was under the impression there should be more bend...

that's a lot of weight to pull no doubt... at 565 you were "inching" the bar to complete the rep... that's a no-no, isn't it...?

shitload more than i can do though, so props to you...

GREAT LIFTS!!!
Congrats on the PR's on deads and bench!!!

I see where DZLS is talking about the bend in the knees but I've also seen a number of powerlifters have the same technique - hard to say what is "right and wrong" - personally I use more bend in mine and drop my butt as much as my inflexible body will allow but there are others at my gym (the 2 others that actually deadlift) that have a similar motion as yours.

yeah. there is a little bit of a hitch on the 565. I know it wouldn't count in a comp. but this is just a gym lift, and I was determined to get it locked out. I will get it a lot cleaner the next time.

technique....its all in what's comfortable to you.

very impressive. my form goes to shit when i approach 400, then its however i can get that sumbitch locked out. again, nice work

:worried: Guess this race isn't gonna be a close one.

I have the exact opposite 'weakness' - if I can get it off the floor I can lock it out with ease. When I get stuck it's at my shins. Any advice (seeing as nothing short of a gram of test a week and a prayer are gonna get me to 600 before ya :D)?

Your back looks rounded, it would be better to judge if you recorded youself from side on.
Well done lifting that much weight.

Awesome job, bro. Very impressive, IMO. Next time though, after you complete the lift, try looking around the gym and kinda' shaking your head like, "Yep, told you so." Just to be an ass. LoL

try box squats, speed deads, and rack pulls from mid shin. pull against bands if you have them, and can build a platform. I'm going to be putting together my own band pulling platform using some plywood, and 2x4s. I'll post a pic after I set it up

thanks for posting, real nice and more than puts me to shame!

Deads are by far my fav lift I like how uncomplicated they are - theres something heavy on the floor, try and pick it up!

Nice lifts sir, you do pullthroughs at all? they would help with the jittery lockout a lot. Good stuff!

No I don't. you are right. they would help me build some hip strength. I think I might start doing some kneeling squats. the thing about those, its they hurt my ankles when I sit back.

Looked like one heck of a pull big man...VERY impressive!!!!!

Great vids, for some reason I like the deadlift vids better then the squating, benching vids..

I find that doing a proper deadlift is harder then it would seem. I am constantly working on form and still feel have issues with the lift.

I'm having a harder time keeping my back straight on the first rep. I almost want to pull up, not up and back.

Do deep deadlifts -- Use 35-lb plates or even 25-lb plates, instead of 45's -- Or deadlift off a box or a block (that's sturdy!). This forces your starting pull to get stronger. But it is potentially more dangerous than a normal DL so be careful
