Deadlift video....critique

looks fine to me.. things that I would tell you -

I wouldnt bother with an over/under grip if you're using straps - none of the grip work and all of the potential neck/bicep problems from using a mixed grip.

waited too long at the top, watch yourself lowering the bar like that after the last rep

you need new shoes, chuck Ts are great for pulling or anything flat with no squishy soles.

I agree. The weight looked really light for you so luckily it wasn't a big deal but never take the weight for granted and lower the last rep the way you would the first rep. I agree also about the mixed grip. Work on both developing your grip (I recommend hook grip) and using double overhand with straps for the weights you can hold on to, for now. Each week try to make it a point to go a little heavier with no straps.

Again, that weight looked really light for you which is great. You reps were all smooth and almost to the point of slow. Keep taking vids as the weights get heavier because that tends to be where people start getting forced out of their form.

To me, it looks like your hips raise first, followed by you powering it up with your lower back.

I would have said the same thing. The hips raise quite a bit before the bar leaves the ground. I'd like to see that first bit of leg drive get the bar off the ground a little bit before the back starts changing angle.

Very comfortable looking reps though, definitely didn't look like a case of going for too much weight on the lift.

wow shades, what week you on on the 5x5? That was my finishing weight yesterday! So damn, looks like were in the same boat.

I agree with tweakle and xblitz, Also, YOU COULD get your ass little lower, but your form is good bro, dont over think this lift. I had tweakle, illuminati, and other big guys critique my form, and the best thing i learned was "Dont think too much about the lift" Your form is always good with light weight, but once you start hitting maxes, etc, your form will suffer, so dont think about it too much. Make sure to explode up and through the heels.

GREAT JOB BRO, made it look easy too

I am week number two. I had said before that we may be able to push each other on deadlift.

The reason I use the over and under grip is because that is what I am most comfortable with.. I have been using it since sixth grade.

I probably should work on keeping my butt down longer but I sorta just grip it and rip it.

Keep that advice coming!

Looks like he start's correct with a neutral spine position, but then just before he start's to pull is there a slight rounding of the back that is caused by him raising his hips first ?

Yea, he does, but not enough to worry about. I mean if he was pulling like that with 135lbs, then we could bitch about how he wasnt strict. but at 370lbs his form was good/very good.

I see what you mean. :)

Shades - it still looks just like a warm up set - you one strong mofo! I read thru the above comments & agree - def watch your back on the heavier pulls. Otherwise - continued quality work!

DO I HEAR A FIVE HUNDRED???

I think I hear your five hundred! You flatter me!

I can't say anything that hasn't been said... but... i will emphasize :)

DEF. Agree with Sassafras: Looks like a warm up set to me... seems like you have ALOT more intensity bottled up in there

wow... 445 raw... already... DAYYYYUM! 500 = "ain't nuttin' but a peanut!"

P.S. I wore my runnin' shoes on "Back day" one time ...wasn't a planned back day... I just kick them off and let everyone smell my sweet aroma when I forget my flats ;)

I just caught this thread....form looks fine....again, I agree, if you use straps, ditch the over/under, and one of these days make a mental note to try the hook grip. I agree with Tweakle and Blitz 100% on lowering the last rep.

Don't overthink the deadlift and become a 'form dork'....your pulling form is perfectly fine....just add weight to the bar, and a lot of it, because that was way too easy.

Thanks, yeah I am following the 5x5 spreadsheet I have so in 2 more weeks Ill be doing my 5 rep "max" (after one week) of 390. After that there is nothing but weight to add. I want that 500 pretty dang bad.

Looks good to me - like several peeps have said, w/ that much weight it looks fine. I also agree that your way below what you can be lifting for 5x on a last set.

Congrats bro -
