Deadlift PR

i've only been doing deads for 3 weeks now. me and my partner started off pretty light for 5x5. we started at 105lbs 3 weeks ago.

we were ready to do deads today, and the last person to do them left the bar loaded with 225lbs. i tried talking myself out of it, but eventually caved in. 225x1, RAW. not even using a belt (i have completely abandoned use of a belt). we 5x5'ed mil press and did 3 sets of side laterals before the deads.

with the way it felt coming up, i think with a few warm up sets before hand, i could probably get 250 raw, regular grip, maybe even more.

Great work brother!! Youll be hitting 3 plates in no time! Then onto 405! If you havent already, Id reccomend rack work to increase your deads and some flat shoes, like converse. Switching between rack work and deads off the floor as I plateau. If I get stuck on a weight off the floor for a few weeks , Ill switch to the rack (lowest setting), when I get stuck on that Ill go back to the floor , plus behind the leg partials, and off the floor has helped alot. GO KILL THAT SHIT!!!!

yeah, much too tempting to pass up :)

i'm already thinking about some flat shoes. i've been wearing a pair of Adidas lately, and they're actually pretty flat, at least compared to the pair of Nike's i have, which i can't do any heavy leg work with because i can't get my balance right. new pair of shoes might be in order for my routine now.

i know on the 5x5 routine you're only supposed to increase the compound lifts by 5lbs a week, but i'm thinking about going 10lbs a week on my deads. we did 115 for reps this week, and it just seems TOO light. might just have to go up 10lbs a week for a month then drop back down to 5lbs per week.

thanks for the advice on using the rack beast. i use the rack for stiff leg deads and hacksquats (or as you call them, beast lifts :D ). i set it on the lowest setting and work it from there, which is actually perfect for me. with stiff leg deads, the lowest power rack setting is as low as i feel i can safely bend over anyway (damn low back problems in the past).

first try at a deadlift PR, and i was unsure if i could pull 225 up or not. gonna have to work at it hard for about 2 months and then go for 3 plates. my gym has a nice deadlift setup. sucks for everyone else that there's only a few people taking advantage of it :)
