DE Upper - Got my log today!!

JOKER47

Elite Mentor
I got my 6ft log today from Lance. So, of course, I had to play with it.:)
I used for speed clean and press. Felt amazingly confortable all the way around for being my first touching a log. Can't wait until Thursday so I can pile some weight on it and see how it goes.:D

Warmup
DB Cleans - 20x2 sets
Light shoulder stretching

Speed Clean and Press - One clean, 3 fast push-press reps.
105lbsx10x3
Weight was easy, reps were explosive. Just feeling out the log. (Plus, it WAS DE day.:D)

BB Incline Press
195lbsx5x5
Up 10lbs from last week. Only got 4 reps on the last set.
I'll get all 5 next week.

DB Flat BP - Palms facing
40lbsx3x10 - Smooth and fast.

Standing Lat Pulls
5x10 - 30 secs between sets, singled light and mini bands. PR!

Flat DB Extensions
30lbsx4x10 - 30 secs between sets.

Ab Work - Decline situps, legs flat - 50lbs on my chest.
3x10 - 45 secs between sets.

I say "decline" on these, but that's just because the bench is declined. I never actually make contact with the bench itself. (If that makes any sense.)

Felt strong today. Which was nice. I was surprised at how comfortable the log felt. Both the clean and the press. Although it WAS only 105lbs, I expected it to feel a little awkward for the first time. We'll see on ME Upper how it really feels.:D

I plan to alternate between log press and thick bar for all OHP'ing on both DE and ME days. Just need to get my thick bar... Standard bar until then.

Work and life schedule is starting to settle down, finally. Even with the holidays approaching.
Hope to start posting some videos again for you all to review for me.

Comments always welcome,
Joker

Excellent man.

I don't feel too much of a difference between a log and bar.. but the log is somewhat more difficult.

Hope you enjoy it.

I think I will. A bar messes with my wrists really bad when pressing heavy. Feels like I have to "snap" my wrist back into place afterwards. Feels easier when my wrists are in the position like they are on the log. (Facing.) Same with benching.

I believe I just have weak wrists, because it is getting better slowly, as I get stronger.

I'll still keep bar work at least every other week, though.

Thanks,
Joker

AWESOME!!!

Can't wait for vids of you using the log too!!!! Any immediate goals for the log???

You can also do flat presses with the log...for fun.

Thanks man.:)

My first goal is 225 clean and press. I would like to push-press it, but may jerk it. I wil try hard to take videos Thursday. (ME Upper.) I know I will need some form review from you all on my clean. I am really curious to see how it feels after I get some seriuos weight on it. Today was just very light.

I actually was thinking about flat presses, too. That would be fun, I would think.:D

nice workout man..i like the way ya got it laid out. have fun with the log

Thanks man.

The layout has been a work in progress over the last 9 months or so. So far, it seems to be workin'.

damn bro, you getting nice and fast if you did those speed sets with a new implement, I can't wait to see the learning curve on this one, I know you can get 225 if you get the clean.... Just keep hitting those tris and rear delts. BTW how is the bf to muscle ratio going, last time we talk you said your bf was going down and you were getting stronger???

Not sure on the BF ratio right now. I haven't ever had my bodyfat % tested. However, I have been playing with my diet to find as close as possible where my calorie intake stagnates my weight gain. Then I can up it to gain, or lower it to lose.
I've been at 220lbs for the last several months, but have been getting stronger in some lifts and all events. (That I can train specifically.) Training is a little different than last year at this time, so it's no surprise to me that the lifts I focused on last year have stagnated, while the focus lifts and events are going up.

Just working on figuring out where my body is happiest, most comfortable, strongest and most athletic. (Don't want for much, do I?:D)
