DB Curl form

Hey, I was wondering about DB curl form ... I've heard that you should rotate the DB outwards as you bring it up -- what is the advantage of doing this? It feels easier this way, but I've heard that it tones better?

I think it's because the biceps, besides lifting the forearm, pronates the wrist. Therefore, you're hitting it extra. There are some barbells you can get that have spinning grips for this sort of thing.

A little off topic but it has something to do with the force needed to turn the dumbell "outwards" as you say.

I`ve ALWAYS thought about this but never did it. Say you`re curling 60 pound DB`s, the ones that have collars and you set up, but you put 35 pounds on one side and 20 pounds on the other, with the heavier side being on the inside of the dumbell. So when you curl you have to sort of rotate more toward the outside while going up because of the weight imbalance. just a thought.

Never tried this on curls but it kicks ass on side and rear laterals!!!:)

Yes, the bicep helps to rotate the wrist. Hold your arm out as if you are doing a bicep pose, with your upper are parallel to the floor and your forearm at right angles to the floor. Now rotate your wrist and watch your bicep...
