With his 44 days of self starvation where is the gotcha part of the stunt? Everything he does as a street illusionist, etc has had some aspect of a gotcha and people thinking now that shit is cool. Where is the gotcha in this one. Nothing cool just stupid attention ho material IMO.

He's a joke. All of his stunts are just plain stupid. Didn't he stand on a post for 3 days only to jump into a pile of boxes? I don't know exactly, but everytime I hear about him I just laugh.

Who fucking cares is the attitude over here, also he was whisked straight off to hospital, you know the place where they have plenty of staff, facilities and time to deal with people who deliberataly put themselvers there.

I like the way people took the piss outta him in a typically british way.........

The day after he was in the box somebody set up a fast food stall right next to him. He got pelted with all types of food, people waved food at him.........one man even jumped in the river and didnt surface just so that poor ol' David had a bad day.

Did he go to private or public hospital?

LMAO!! Now this is good.

I like the guy that climbed up the rig and tried to cut the cables best... lol

lol I just read that gangs of people were using mobiles to arrange to meet at the site. Then they'd all buy fast food and taunt him for a few minutes.

Cutting the cable.......jesus lol. I guess that guy didnt like show offs.

Tearful Blaine Emerges From Perspex Prison

An emotional David Blaine ended his 44-day starvation stunt Above The Below in London by telling fans the experience had been one of the most important of his life. The American illusionist has been suspended in a perspex box above the River Thames since September 5 but was released last night. Starving Blaine, 30, told the cheering crowds that he was deeply grateful for their support and broke down as he described his what he had learned from the experience. He said, "This has been the most important day of my life. I have learned more in that box, than I have in years. I have learned to appreciate the simple things in life. I love all of you forever." Officials on hand weighed Blaine and found that during his incarceration he had shed an incredible 56 pounds. They then rushed the ailing magician to a nearby hospital, where he will remain as he recovers from his ordeal.

NO, this is the beginning of a new diet fad: the Box Diet! You can go in a fat ass bitter slob, and come out a loving, humble, thin, human being!
Hell, take a bottle of ECA with ya. It'll give you some peyote-like visions.

Lol, he got done for criminal damage.

The radio controled helicopter with the suspended cheese burger was another favorite... :)

Why do all his stunts end with him grimacing in pain? Even when he levitates, it ends with him dropping down, holding his sides and staggering around gasping. Why?

Because his magical powers drain him of his very life-force.

While I wouldn't give Blaine a squirt of piss if he were on fire, an earlier article concerning this stunt gave some insight to the mentality of British people. It stated that many of the onlookers were very upset at Blaine's stunt because he was doing it for personal gain. They would have accepted it more if he were doing this stunt for some "cause", but somehow personal goals of this sort are looked down upon.

It seems that the immersion of the masses into the altruism of socialism has turned them against personal acheivement. They are offended at the idea of one doing something for his own gain and not for the sake of others.

he went to a private hosptial

if he went NHS i wouldnt like to put a figure on his survival chances....

he really is a pleb if he did this for real....if it was just water i doubt he could speak, he wont be able to eat for DAYS due to refeed syndrome and he;s done permanant damage to his body

its gotta be fake

and atlantabiolab...you weren't McCarthy in a former life were u? he might have done it for himself but the way he promoted it was what people had issue with

Who knows?

he might have done it for himself but the way he promoted it was what people had issue with

And how was that?

A public official was stated as being upset that he chose starvation, since this was the MO of some earlier IRA protestors who went something like 50+ days without food. He implied that it was offensive to others because of the memory of this occurance, where one of the members died. I guess Indians should have been insulted about this IRA event since Ghandi used starvation protests before the IRA protests. Idiots.

I think that it is fair to say that most brits dont really celebrate personal achievement. He could have used this stunt to raise immense ammounts of money for charity etc.........

u always get one person who gets overly offended for no damn good reason...you can't judge an entire populace on the basis of one persons opinions

what myself and other people had issue with was
-its a really pointless spectacle. look at the hungry man in the box??
- he ended up having police officers guard his non-british ass. let him hire his own fucking security
- how does doing something voluntarily (which others have to endure round the world) for personal gain jusitfy the attention he expected. i dislike the fact state resources were wasted on him. if he wanted to test himself then fine, but if we wanna pelt him with eggs that should be allowed too

i think its an unfair test....he had reading material in there to keep him sane. they should have mirrored the box so we can look in and he can't look out, and a small window so we can occasionally taunt him with burgers from toy helicopters. watching him go insane would have been cool

and if he was on water with no salt or sugars its highly unlikely he could a) walk or b) construct a remotely coherent sentence. stoopid chump better not come back here again, think about how much good he could have done with that stunt like imnotdutch said

And should he not have that right? No matter how stupid it is?

- he ended up having police officers guard his non-british ass. let him hire his own fucking security

Like protestors, for any cause: anti-war, anti-WBO, animal rights, etc. pay for their security.

- how does doing something voluntarily (which others have to endure round the world) for personal gain jusitfy the attention he expected.

Actually, the attention was voluntary. Who forced people to give a second glance at the moron? It was purely voluntary and despised, but that is your right to disagree.

Sorry, but the concept of free "whatever" means just that. What right do you have to decide who shall and shall not partake in the public funds? Since everyone is forced to hand over their property, then why should they not be permitted to stick their hand in the pot?

As for the eggs, throw away. I liked that part of the story. You have the right to act, but others also have the right to act.

Again, here is the crux of my original post. It seems that British mentality is that it is OK if you are doing something for a "cause", something not personally rewarding. This mentality is destructive for innovation and motivation. Why should a man do anything solely for the sake of others? If that is his wish, then fine, but you are arguing for this to be the only reason for such actions.

What good could he do locking himself in a box with no food anyway?

whats everyones problem with Blaine? He has an immense talent, regardless of whether its fake or not. He's doing what he loves to do in life, and I think that all these people stuck in cubicles counting down the days until they die are all jealous that he has something they will never be able to have, self fulfillment.

I gotta admit that I am very impressed by his stamina and his ability to make his body endure extreme conditions. His magic was pretty cool too.........I remember the first time I saw him doing the levitation trick........pretty damn cool.

Good luck to him.........

he's not a citizen of the country. fuck him. and what the hell is he protesting? nothing....he set it up as a spectacle. since when was the government supposed to provide security for foreign exhibitionists...

but he expected postive attention....strange IMO....true its ultimatley up to each person's autonomy whether they choose to look at him, but damn, his people (PR) should realise there will be animosity to him

screw his yankee ass. if he wants public funds he should try and contribute like the citizens of this country. and no, i dont think tourism is significant enough an effect.

people here will not understand why public displays should be done for self gratification and egotistical reasons. we see it as akin to someone ctanding on a street corner and screaming out loud for 44 days to just see if they can....if its not gonna help anyone why inflict it upon others. and his stunt does potentially dtract from the plight of others in many a peoples eye.

and yes....the brits are quite an altruistic populace in oublic opinion. i think thats a good thing. this 'spectacle' was about as innovative as bashing yourself in the crotch for 20 days non stop. motivation? not really sure it touched that many people....other than to show why not eating/anorexia is a REALLY bad idea

Damn this is getting interesting!!

I think the most impressive feat here is that he didn't beat off for like 44 days...

well stupid or not, come on, if he really was in a box for 44 days, that's some willpower. More willpower than probably a lot of people combined. Maybe some peolpe hating on him are just jealous. So what if he's doing it to show off? The majority of people on this site lift weights to have a nice body to SHOW OFF to people. The majority of guys on this board goes clubbing on weekends to SHO OFF to females.

I don't understand the negativity if it's not out of jealousy.

Can someone actually live that long without food? Do you think maykbe his "water" was perhaps a sugar solution or something?

Blaine is a moron, and I have no problem with the British throwing shit at him, taunting him, or whatever. Like I stated, you have the right to speak or act but you don't have the right to a specific response to those words or actions. Others have the right to disagree and act accordingly.

But you finally agreed to my original post about the British response. I have no problem with their disagreement with Blaine, Americans would have done the same thing. What I was noticing was the reasoning behind the disagreement, which is the hatred of personal choice, of individual motivation and ambition. There was a underlying theme in many of the articles about this which implied that unless you follow the collective consensus, an individual should not have the permission to act. Blaine was doing something that was not deemed "worthy" by the collective, so there was resentment.

In America, the consensus would have been more to the idea that he was just a "fucking idiot" and that would be about the extent of it. There would not have been any reference to past political starvation events, or "causes", etc., simply the fact that people don't want to see a moron.

P.S. Altruism is a horrible ideal.

i always agreed with the idea that the brits and indeed europe are different in regards to the populations views and ideals. im not sure it can be purely attributed to america's almost ruthless fever if free enterprise or europes institutionised socialism.

Americans have a tendency to wear their heart on their sleeves which is why so many royals and other outcasts from europe find sympathy in America, where as over here people are quick to judge generally. I can imagine many in america chasing aftert the egg throwers even if they started at the first day, and i dont think that would have happenend in britain until his little stunt reached the end, and the reason for that isnt socialism vs. capatalism

altruism is an excellent ideal, it just require everyone to be altruisitic. however given the filth that coinstitutes most of society nowadays, not everyone will be altruistic, leaving the system open to exploitation. consequently, many of those succesful in life are less than altruistic, and there is nothing to motivate people to be so save morals, society or religion.

There is no such thing as altruism. Mother T is the closest thing to it. Everything you do in every waking second in some way makes you feel better about yourself.
