Daisy...

lmao you guys ...

Seriously, I am starting to get a little freaked (in a good way though). I am due in 29 days, 4 weeks. Hubby and I only have FOUR baby-free weekends left. How weird!

Things are coming together, starting to put things up in the house, will do more this weekend - hopefully crib and dresser will be up this weekend.

I am feeling great, but hips are starting to ache a little when sleeping and I get full REALLY fast. At my doctor's appt yesterday, found out I have not gained any more weight since last appt .... so I am still at 27lbs at 36w. Which I am pretty happy with. Chances are, I will end up at 35lbs, which is normal and healthy.

I am anxious, but excited. :) Thanks for checking in! :)

BABY!!!! YAY!!!! Best wishes ..I've been off the board for a while and didnt hear the good news. I am just wondering, since I am scared to death of this, how you have dealt with the weight gain? Im very interested in the kind of workout that you can do while preg.? What kind of foods you should eat? What CRAZY cravings do u get? 35lbs is very normal....most women gain between 25-45lbs....one's that are underweight gain a lot more but you got lucky. I am genetically programmed to just gain 70+lbs and all around the ass area lol...so im curious....I might as well start thinking and planning now...

I haven't really stressed out at all about the weight gain. I know it is inevitable, and normal. I totally expected to gain a LOT more, and am very suprised I have not.

I thought I would be "that woman" who worked out like mad during pregnancy - but I have not. I worked out regularly during the first trimester and the beginning of the second. After that, I have slacked off a lot. A lot has to do with my job - I am a teacher, and on my feet 10-12 hours a day. I tend to be a little obsessive about my job - I am typically there 7:30-5:30 (or more). The LAST thing I could do was go workout after that day. And forget about waking up early. I already woke up at 5:30 to go to work.

I have not had any real CRAVINGS. My first trimester was full of adversions - I could NOT eat any protein (besides milk, yogurt). The thought of chicken or other meat was nauseating, as was eggs. Also, I spent the first few months with NO desire for sweets. Ice cream sounded gross, and candy - yuck. And I have a MAJOR sweet tooth. I only really started eating ice cream again in the 3rd trimester. And I still don;t have a huge desire for candy. Every now and then I want some, but never enough to actually go get some.

There are foods/meals that I really want at times, but nothing major. More like - I would pass a mexican restaurant and want mexican for dinner. Not an overwhelming NEED, but just a desire. Also, grocery shopping - sometimes I would shop and something sounded good at the time, but then I would never eat it because it did not sound good anymore. But this is pretty normal - I don't really attribute it to pregnancy.

I have given myself a license to eat pretty much what I want at that moment. I eat fast food a couple times a week - not just burgers and fries, but fast food chinese, mexican or subs. I eat a TON of cereal - I go through 2-3 boxes a week and 2 gallons of skim milk (hubby drinks the milk to though). And the cereal I eat is the sugar ones - frosted flakes, corn pops, apple jacks, etc. That said, a pregnant woman only needs about 300 extra calories a day - so I have NOT eaten "for two", but have not stressed out about every nite I put in my mouth.

My "typical day" varies a lot, but in general this is what I eat everyday:

Wake up 5:30ish
6am - breakfast - 2 bowls cereal w/ skim milk, 8-10oz OJ
9:30ish - snack - fruit or granola bar
12:00 - lunch - frozen dinner, school lunch, leftovers (usually something pasta based), fruit
3:30ish - snack while still at school - whatever I can get my hands on, fruit, granola bar, leftovers from lunch, something in the lounge, sometimes healthy, usually not
5:30ish - snack when I get home - 2 oranges, or 1 bowl cereal, or 2 pieces white toast
7ish - dinner - whatever we make, or whatever I want - steak& potatoes, pasta, cereal (lol), waffles - sometimes fast food
9:00ish - snack - hot chocolate, or hot apple cider, or 2 oranges
Bedtime usually between 9-10pm.

As far as the gym, when I go, I still do basically the same thing I did before. I still did cardio machines, free weights, weight machines, cardio classes, Body Pump weights classes, walking outside, yoga (regular and prenatal). I just reduced my intensity when I needed to, watched my exertion and breathing, made sure I drank a lot of water and did not get too hot. I know my body really well, and know when to push it and when to back off. My OB gave NO exercise restrictions because of this. In the beginning I went to the gym 5 times a week .... then it started coming down to 3 ... now it is 2-3 on a good week. I have been sick for 3 weeks (bronchitis) so I have not worked out ONCE during this time. That is my biggest thing - I used to work out sick all the time. Now, when pregnant, if I remotely feel bad I will NOT work out. I don't even consider it. It is not worth it. If *I* am fighting to breathe - so is she - and I will not risk anything happening to her for the sake of MY vanity.

The thing with pregnancy is that you really have to accept that you have very little control over your body. Yes, you can be healthy ... but regardless, you will gain weight, your body will change and there is very little you can do about it. There is no way you can really predict how much weight you will gain, where it will go, etc. You can look to genetics (mom, grandma, sisters) but it is still unpredictable. You HAVE to be okay with this. If you are more concerned about your body than your baby's health - then you are not ready.

It IS hard to watch it happen, but when you feel the baby move inside you, that feeling goes away. I have so much time to "reclaim" what my body used to be - there is no rush, no need to get worked up about gaining a few pounds, losing my waist, and being a little jiggly. I can't wait to transform my body again - postpartum - with my daughter to show me how far I have come and how it was all worth it.

You are a very smart woman....and I am sure you will make a great mommy. Good luck!!!!

Hey girl. You never know you may go to the dr and they may say you are dilated and the baby can come anytime!! So take advantage of the next few weekends and just have fun. Once you have her you aren't going to want anyone else to watch her even if it is for just a few hours. It's hard leaving the baby for the first time.

And, unlike many of the people on EF, you can't just leave the little one in front of the computer to stay entertained.... :lmao:

Wow congrats to you. For me on the otherhand I spent two weeks with my niece and nephew and I'm still recovering. It definitely takes a special person to be a parent and have patience!

No - she HAS to stay put for 3 more weeks. :)

Had childbirth class today (and again next Sat) ... it was interesting (to say the least). They had a doll that was the average size/weight of a newborn... no fricken way is that head coming out of me, lol. I changed my mind, no baby for me. :worried:

It only further solidified my desire for drugs. :)

You know how the biggest question in your kid's early life is what are his/her first words? Your LAST words are "EPIDURAL! EPIDURAL!"

Ow.

Happy to read that you're doing well. Don't worry, you'll be fine, heck you may even surprise yourself and not need the meds when the time comes. Anyways, good luck and I wish you & yours the very best!!

Hey Daisygirl, Are you drinking raspberry leaf tea???

NO ... I absolutely positively CANNOT go into labor early. My last day of work is my due date and it would seriously suck to go early. Of course, healthy baby is really all that matters, but it will seriously cause havoc in my work life if I go into labor early.

I will start trying labor-inducing things on the 25th or 26th but NOT before.

LOL @ Daisy hoping the munchkin isn't going to start making demands on mom before mom is ready :)

Kids have a way of doing that I hear...!

All my hopes for you that you are able to start your mommy leave on your schedule with time to stop off at the spa for a relaxing mani / pedi, the hubby to serve breakfast in bed & clean the dishes, time for a nice leisurely drive to the doc, quickie labor, back to the recovery room w/ bundles of flowers everywhere, new munchkin and then home for your new life :)

Have you read the girlfriends guide to having a baby?? They had some good things in there that most books didnt. Remember this; the Anesthesiologist is your best friend and the 2nd most important person in your room. Everything will be fine dont worry, if you do by chance go before your leave starts believe me (I went in labor 6 weeks early, they stopped it but I was on bed rest and had him 3 weeks early, I didn't have anything at work in order) havick will not be on your mind. Nothing but that little girl you are holding will be on your mind.

the raspberry leaf tea isn't for inducing, it is to help you with an easier labor, some it works for wonders and some not at all but it wont hurt anything to drink it and it is good for you. I hate tea so I think I might take the pills. :coffee:

Hmm, I thought I read it induces labor too ... I'll have to go research.

Honey, the DRUGS are what makes labor easier :lmao:

lol. I guess huh. Well faster. And if you look into make sure you type raspberry leaf.
I never knew you were working right up to your due date. Wow. :) A good wow, cause I dont think I could do it.

Okay, I did some quick reading and it is an herbal thing that can help make labor quicker and possibly easier. It also helps expel the placenta and can help increase breast milk.

BUT, the reason it helps with labor is that is can also cause uterine contractions. While this is FANTASTIC during labor, and something I want very very much ... I do NOT want it this early. :) Definately something I might start in the last week .....

:) For sure. Me too. I know my mom drank it with me, and she was very fast. The doctor came in and said okay I will be back in a couple hours and before he even got home they had to call him back to the hospital. I will have to ask her when she started to drink the tea. But definatly something I would love to help me with as well. :)

Good to hear all is still well. I wish you all the best for a quick labour. I myself now have 23 days to go, but are starting to have little niggles, so I may go early (gosh I hope). Good luck and all the best. Thinking of you at this most anxious time.

Oh wow that is awesome, all three of us are so close in due dates. Good luck to you... :)

Daisy, don't let it scare you!!! IMO, Delivery was the EASIEST part (in the general scheme of things). Really, I wouldn't lie to you. Start practicing Kegels, if you haven't been. Took me 20 minutes total to deliver my son, and he was just shy of 9 lbs -- I did it totally natural, no drugs, no shots. You forget, their little heads ... well, squish. The bones of the skull overlap in the birth canal.

The labor, that blew. But I had a long, slow back labor.

What's neat about going drug free is you're bursting with energy afterwards, very up, happy, bouncing off the walls. The baby was sleeping his first in the open air and I was bored and wandering around the hospital trying to find somebody to talk with :FRlol:

All of it scares me. :) I think the lack of control is my issue. I pretty much can't control much of it, which is troublesome. :)

I had another OB appt today. Things are looking good. I had an ultrasound, and she is measuring about 6lbs14oz (almost 7bs) and there are still 2 more weeks! I think we are going to have an 8 pounder. :)

Good news .... I lost a pound ... which means my total weight gain is 27lbs now. And with HER gaining weight, it is likely that *I* am not gaining anything right now.
*whew* Although getting "back to normal" is STILL going to be hard, I am sure. But it will help that I have not gained a ton of weight.

The fear makes things MUCH worse. Hey, you got a lot of moms on this board who've been down the road before you, ask questions!!! God knows I have a big mouth and absolutely NO sense of shame about expressing my point of view on anything :qt: IMO, the more informed you are the less likely you will be taken by surprise or scared. I'll NEVER forget when I went into labor (which for the first 4 or so hours were like menstrual cramps and I kind of ignored). Then things started getting more intense ... me, I'm looking them up in my copy of "what to expect when you're expecting." The line in the book read, "discomfort." Discomfort, it read DISCOMFORT. This was NOT discomfort. I know discomfort. This fell into the full blown category of OH SH*T ... well, of course, now I'm psychologically sh*tting myself because nobody ever said it HURT, they used euphamisms like uncomfortable or discomfort so of course I'm afraid something is really wrong. Long story short, my labor, all 17 hours of it, 5 of which were in transition, hurt and part of the hurt came from the fact that nobody told me it could potentially hurt, if that makes sense. The rest of the worst of the pain was because my back is terribly messed up, and I doubt if you have the back problems I do. My back was killing me. The stuff going on in my uterus was not pleasant, but it definitely played second fiddle to my back pain (funny how one pain can place a different perspective on another).

BEAR IN MIND, everyone's level of pain is different and we all have different pain tolerance thresholds. Case in point, within a year of my having MY son a very dear friend of mine had HERs. FOUR HOURS, start to finish (versus my 17), and it was her first baby, too. FOUR FREAKING HOURS! When we were comparing notes she was one of those "it didn't really hurt all that bad," schools. I instantly hated her

Put it this way, despite KNOWING what it's like and having been through it, if circumstances in my life were different I STILL wish I could go do it again with my current husband, and I'd STILL do it without an epidural knowing what I do, so it ain't all that bad!!! :qt: Heck, if it was, nobody would have more than one kid.

I'll tell you what, Daisy, let me tell you EXACTLY what my mother told me when I expressed my fears about the pain of childbirth to her, wondering how a baby would ever fit through ummm, there . She looked me dead straight in the eye, patted me on the hand and said:

"Don't worry about it, kid, it'll stretch a mile before it tears an inch."

I miss my mom, she was a pip.

And with only 27 or so pounds gained, you'll be back into fighting trim in no time at all, I gained a LOT more than that, took me a full year.

I agree my second was totally natural, no drugs or gas. The labour was 8hrs and that was the hardest part, but the actual delivery was something you can't describe only to say that it the most incredible experience. Yes I also was on such an adreniline high for about 5 hrs after delivery and you feel on top of the world. Unfortunately I didn't experience that with my first or my third as my first was a 72hrs labour and I had pethadine, gas, and an epidural and didn't get the chance to feel the baby enter the world. My third was a cesarian so again I missed out, and I cried my eyes out.
This time I'm on track for a natural again and I am totally for no drugs or gas.
Don't worry Daisy it will all come to you as the process goes along. Try to hold out as long as you can before you go for the drugs.

Daisy it is NOT as bad as what you think it will be....you pretty much forget it when it is over and you are holding your baby...If I can do it 3 times...you'll be just fine lol....btw castor oil will put you into labor...did for all 3 of mine......

I have heard of castor oil for labour induction, how much do you take and how fast does it work. Are there any side affects like haveing the runs or vomiting?
I am dying to get this baby out, the doc says all is ready to go just now playing the waiting game. I am so fed up. :sulk: :(

I've known a couple of girls who've done the castor oil thing. Chugged it for 2 weeks and didn't have anything but a bad taste in their mouths. lol That's stuff is nasty!

You'll do fine. Are you having dreams about it yet? lol

Have regular sex. DO NOT take castor oil or any other compound!

The hormones (in the ejaculate) can help move things along naturally. I found this on the internet:

Are there any techniques I can try myself at home to get my labor going?
No do-it-yourself methods have been proven consistently to be both safe and effective. Here's the scoop on some of the techniques you may have heard about:

• Sexual intercourse: Having sex won't induce labor, but it can't hurt to try! Semen contains some prostaglandin, and having an orgasm may stimulate a few contractions.

• Nipple stimulation: Twisting or pinching your nipples releases your own natural oxytocin. A few studies have found it to be effective in getting labor going within 72 hours if your cervix is already ripe, but the method has not been well studied. And don't try it at home: Nipple stimulation requires monitoring because it can sometimes cause prolonged contractions that could stress your baby and depress his heart rate.

God bless the internet :D

I wouldnt really trust the internet too much...anyone these days can put up a website. I think you should just hang in there and let things take care of them selves naturally. Your baby is probably not ready yet...and im sure you made it a great home in your tummy so the baby doesnt want to come out ;)

Good luck and it will be over soon enough...then you will have your baby and it will be great!!!!! (I hope your baby is a sleepy baby...some people get lucky like that!)

I took castor oil with my last child, it gave me contractions but never actually put me into labor although the contractions were really solid and regular I'm sure it helped a little. I just mixed it with root beer and it wasnt that bad.

The sex thing is true, and harmless. I C/P'd what I found on a birthing center site because it was easier than typing it myself.

The nipple stimulation thing is also true (very useful, in fact, to speed up a stalled labor, doctors will inject you with oxcytocin if genuine labor begins and then, for whatever reason, stops).

The same site recommended against castor oil, which is only good for giving you diarrhea, and herbs, which can be downright dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.
