Cutting weight for a contest.

Deciever

New member
For an upcoming contest of mine(powerlifting), im going to have to cut about 7-8 lbs.

The contest is June 15th..

I plan on starting to some cardio, and i need some weighs to drop a lot of water weight.

i was thinking about dandelion root, to drop a few lbs, just because it is one of the few things not banned by the federation.

Any other ideas on how i could cut weight for the contest?

Im not to sure of an answer for you, but all i have to say is becarefull so you dont lose any strength. Ive seen it happen.

strengthloss should be minimal... within a weeek of the contest, i should probably only have a few more lbs to lose, so i wont have to worry much about strength loss

Well not sure if you want to get into serious waterloss pills but ARBUTEROL is an over the counter water loss pill that helped me lose 10lbs of water in 3 days I was pissing soo much bro it ain't even funny. I don't know if your too young for that stuff in your system, BUT as long as your not going for some type of record break then just lift in the upper class and gain weight and trust me you'll be stronger.

Cubanito, i plan on taking some dandelion root, as it is one of the few things allowed by the USAPL. After this contest i am definately moving up.

Im not moving up for this one because it is my first sanctioned meet, and i PLAN on setting all 4 records for my weight class.

If i didnt have school and stuff cardio would be easy, but its a pain to wake up 5:30 and do cardio :(

Just carb deplete. Assuming you are going to weigh-in the night before.

Otherwise, you can cut your carbs some, as opposed to zero, if you are going to weigh in day of, so as not to lose too much strength. You would not have enough time to fully re-carb if you cut them entirely and only had about an hour to re-load. Dropping your carbs the last week slightly will also cause you to lose water, as every gram of stored glycogen holds 3-4 grams of water.

Keep your cardio very light.

I dont think Carb depleteing is a good idea. He is doing a powerlifting Meet not a bodybuilding show. IF anything he wants to up his carbs the week of the meet. When you carb deplete it makes you tired, ive seen it happen. Carbs is a source of energy. Really the best thing for him to do is to watch what he eats. do extra cardio if you need it. Burn Some Calories, and make sure your eating low fat foods.

Deciever what weight class are you doing and at what age? what are your goals for the meet?

You are on track with that dandelion root Deciever. I took dandelion root an it is like $6 for a big bottle. I took double the dosage and dropped water weight easily. Also I was chewing redman tobacco and spitting-dropping water. I filled up most of an empty 2 liter bottle in one night too-that was a few pounds there so with under $10 with the dandelion and chew it was painless and it works!!

freak, im competing in the 132's, im 14. I have to weigh-in within 2 hours of the meet for my lifts to be able to be counted towards the record.

Hopefully the dandelion root will help, as it isnt a prescription diuretic so it isnt banned by the USAPL.

14!! Well sorry-forget about the chewing tobacco I assumed you were 18+...at 14 I would say take nothing and enter the class yu weigh in that day-whatever you weigh will work well.

lol its ok about the chaw.... I'll probably just stick with dandelion root.. i weighed in at 136 today before my workout at 4 o clock. So i should be good. I want to be down around 130 in case the scale weighs heavy.

Im sure since it is a USAPL meet the scales might be on target but dont qoute me on that. since you have to weigh in 2 hours before the meet, please dont carb deplete. since you got 6lbs to drop you should be ok with your strength. There not gonna make you weigh in after the meet are they?

How did you feel today when you worked out?

Also when you weigh in try and wear some of the lightest clothes you have. and see if you can take your shoes off. or even strip down to your underwear like boxers do. I had to do that when i weighed in for a WNPF meet.

What are the records that you are going for?

actually, today was one of the best workouts i've had in a while.

speed squats, w/ 115 plus light bands choked, than a single with 205 w/ lights choked on t he box.

stiff legs 255 x 4 PR
hip abductor stuff w/ bands
new ab exercise

I have to weigh in before the meet, and only after the meet if there is a tie.

I always weigh in in my boxers, if im like a few ounces over, i'll weigh in naked, its not a problem, i'll be in a closed room w/ 3 judges.

The records im going for are....
Bench- current record- 170
Squat - current record- 292
deadlift- current record- 325

Im opening bench w/ 175 for a state record
im opening squat with 275, then going to 295 for a state record
im opening dead w/ 330 for a state record probably...

Well good luck on your meet. It sounds like your on the right road.
With your openers, are they very easy for you? Are they lifts that shouldnt be questioned? IM just askin because I wanna make sure that you get on the board. Because that is the most important thing at a meet. Also make sure your depth in the squat is DEEP, because since its the USAPL im sure they are gonna watch.

Good Luck,

175 bench is something i could pause raw , so that'll be fine
330 dead, im gonna test that in a few weeks, make sure it goes up easy
and im testing my squat suit for my opener again 2 weeks before the contest.

yeah and since im going for records, they're gonna watch me extra close :(

MY raw deadlift is 360. I havent tried to pull in a suit.. i'll probably go suit up next week after speed squats maybe to deadlift. See how that goes.

I have always carb depleted to make weight. If D is not doing anything, he does not need a lot of carbs. If he were allowed to weigh-in the night before, 18 hours is plenty of time to re-carb. It only takes a couple of days to deplete enough carbs to drop at least 3-5% bw with no dieting.

I think a fair amount of watching what is eaten should be a part of everyone program.

The bad thing about herbal diruetics is that everyone repsonds differently to them, so start a little early instead of waiting until the last minute and having to increase the dosage.
