Cutting Diet and Sickness

LDawg

New member
I just got sick 2 days ago and stopped my workout for this week. Should there be any modification to my diet assuming I am on a typical cutting diet? Lower overall caloric intake? Lower protein, fats, or carbs?

TIA,
LDawg

I would lay off the diet for a few days until you feel better.

If you're sick, you need to fuel your body with all the nutrients it needs. Don't deprive yourself until you're back on track.

Hope you feel better soon mate :)

I disagree with diamond. If you are in a near ketosis diet (30g carbs) you are likely to get flu like symptoms. Your body will adapt. If you are sick for some other reason, then stop until gone, but otherwise I would fix the diet and get on the ketosis badnwagon, or of course 403030, all found in the search.

Immune function is modulated by caloric balance via leptin, so dieting causes immune suppression (and this is primarily a result of glucose metabolism, so keto diets are the worst, in this regard). In addition, dieting increases cortisol, which is immunosuppressive.

Refeeds, glutamine, and anti-oxidants, particular Vit C, can help avoid illness while dieting.

How can the glutamine help?

Aaaaahhh..I was afraid that people would say this. Well I guess it's the best thing to do. No worries gymrat, I'll be fine in no time.

Cheers,

i would reccomend sticking to your diet. the same thing happened to me. the first week or two i started my cutting diet i was getting light headaches and felt so drowsy, i didnt think i would be able to do the diet. soon my body adapted to it and i feel fine, the sickness will prolly go away. stick to your diet for at least a week more and see what happens.
