customs/immigration/canada/...help

hey guys......just thought i would throw this out, and see if anyone has any knowledge on this. i am from the states and go to alberta, canada about once a year. i got into a little trouble last year (something stupid) and did not go to the court date, because i was already back home, and didn't have the funds to go back up for the court date. so now i have a warrant for my arrest, until i take care of the matter. i plan on getting a lawyer and getting the matter taken care of, but if i travel back but there, will the customs/immigration agents have anything in their computer about a warrant??? and if so, what if i go through customs in vancuver instead of alberta?? thanks guys!!!

Arrest warrants are serious. Chances are custmos will have this information on the computer when you enter the country. The US customs has this, I spoke to a customs officer about it. Don't take that risk, either never go to Canada, or get a lawyer and fix the problem.

You can't bypass customs info. by going to another entry point. The information is universal wherever you go in that country.

If it was something serious, then InterPol might also be involved. In this case, no matter which country you go to, the warrant will show on their computer as you enter customs with your passport.

Speaking of passport, just get a fake one, and you won't have to worry about Canada anymore. <joke>

thanks for the info bro..... it was nothing serious......it was pretty lame, me and my brother in law got cited for "talking to a prostitute" we were just having some laughs, and when we left, the cops pulled us over and cited us. he was able to go to some dumb class on a saturday, but i couldn't come back when it was being offered. and i also couldn't come back for the court date. they wouldn't give me an extension, or anything! the whole thing sucks. i quess i'll have to get a canadian lawyer.......

what offence did you do ? Also MrDbol is right, no matter where you go customs will still have the info on you. ....

thats nothing to worry about :)

As soon as you go back to Alberta, you'll be arrested, and given the death penalty.

Sorry, but that's just how it is here.

i know it's not a big offense, but since i couldn't make the court date, the lady at the DA office said i would have a warrant, and i have relatives there, so i need to go back. what should i do? i mean, i know i should get a lawyer, but a few times i've gone through, customs doesn't even look anything up, they just look at my id, and let me on by. i'm just afraid of getting ripped off by a lawyer.....

sorry guys....after i just read that i realized it doesn't make much sense, sounds like i'm blabbin......:p , what i was tryin to say is that i know i need to get a lawyer, but i just don't have that much money right now (i need it for my test and eq...haha) but i'd like to go back up there this summer...... the last few times i went, customs didn't even run my info through the computer, heck, last summer i drove through and they didn't even look at my id. i'm just afraid if they run my info (since 9/11/01 their probably more strict) they will the the warrent, and arrest me....

thanks for the info supernav..... dude that just made my day.....i've been dreading this problem since sept of last year (that's when it happened, i was there during sept. 11) . no offense bro, but how do you know all of this.......oh yea, and long beach---- cool, i'm up by elderado park a lot, my grandparents live in l.b......i'm a little more south....

so your saying that the customs agents will have info of my warrent in their system?...

I have gone between US and Canada and also the UK.
It was not busy so I asked the Agent what type of checks they normally do on people.
He looked my over and then showed me how they access a National Wanted listing that is updated every 2 days...
Europe is even better as they check multiple National databases because of the whole EU thing.

Mexico has a bunch of POST-IT notes up at their Borders...

ok, so i call the court in edmonton today, and i act like i have no idea what's goin on, i just tell them that i was cited last summer and want to get the matter cleared up.....so the lady looks up my name, and tell me i have a warrent for my arrest.....so i act all suprised and afraid, and ask her if i'll still be able to enter the country.....she says yes, and that she doesn't think customs checks for things like that, she also confirms that it is just a misdameanor.....she tells me i need to speak with the public assistant and she if i can work things out with the court......so i talk to the public assistant, and she is mean.... .......she says, you have a warrant out for your arrest and need to turn yourself in to the police, and the court will not work with me since it has been more than 30 days since my scheduled court date. i also ask her if i'll be able to enter the country and what will happen when i turn myself in.....she says she does not know the answers to those questions, and that i will have to call the police department.....so, that's were i'm at now......
