Custom Filtration System

Ok I have been thinking about this a while and Im pretty sure it would work. I it does then it will be a very cheap way to filter with only one part you would have to replace. If it works it would have the ease of a vacuum pump filter and the cost of a syringe filtration system.

Here is a very crude drawing but you get the point.

Basically you will have you a beaker of the oil you need filtered, have a tube in that connected to the top of the whatman filter then another tube on the other side of the filter that connects to a rubber stopper inserted in a vacuum flask. Then just a basic vucuum pump on the flask with tube to keep suction.

What yall think?

I think the only thing that can go wrong is the tubes collapsing from the suction pressure. If I can find some strong enough this wont be a problem and things should run smooth.

Yup thats exactly what I was thinking. With that Watmann you need pretty high pressure. The prob that I have had with anything other then the soft tubing is that I cant get it to seal.

1.5 CFM Vac Pump

That's the pump I'll be using, I'm pretty sure it has the power for it. I Was thinking about that too, I guess I will just have to make them as tight as possible maybe put a few drops of oil to make a seal. If I have to I'll get some cramps I can tighten or some tire wraps.

to be honest with the syringe filter i only get around 60ml before i should change filters as it gets real slow. so maybe that fact could influence your decision as ive heard the bottle tops get around 400-500ml each.
