Creatine in powder form is considered stable. Provided it is not exposed to moisture or acidic enviroments over prolonged periods, it will not breakdown. Creatine in liquid form though is considered unstable and is prone to deteriate. Creatine products containing citric acid or phosphoric acid (preserving agents) should be considered unstable.

A good starting point when purchasing creatine is to look for the CREAPURE symbol on the product. Other creatine based products may contain such contaminants as creatinine, sodium, dicyandiamide (used in epoxy resins, fertilisers, cleaning compounds), and dihydrotriazine (very little information is know about this but some forms can be considered highly toxic).
