Creatine and Kidneys

I was taking Met-Rx's creatine and saw many of the results everyone seems to rave about....

However, I believe the stuff also help induce a kidney stone...obviously I wasn't drinking enough water to flush the oxalates and other crystals in my kidney's...

Has anyone else experienced this?

This was about 2 years ago and I'm anxious to try this stuff again (brand?), but I've very apprehensive and cautious - people who have had kidney stones (or given birth) will know why... :)

your feedback/recommendations are appreciated....

If you are going to do the creatine thing then add ALA @ 2 g per day to your diet to help keep your kidney's clean..

ALA does all kinds of fun stuff but kidney support is one of the big pluses.

Water = 1 gal a day.

I have heard that large amounts of protein in take can also cause kidney stones if you do not consume enough water. The kidney stones might have been a function of both.

Also it may depend on how much creatine you were taking. I have read many studies that say the human body on average can only handle ~5g creatine a day and the rest is flushed by the kidneys.
So maybe if you were loading with 20-25 g a day and then taking 10+ thereafter (I'm suprised how many people seem to take it pre and post workout.. that's 10-14 g right there) you could have put some insane stress on your kidneys. I personally just take 5g a day and drink lots of water. No point in paying for super expensive urine and kidney stones...

Thanks for your posts....

WODIN....seems like alot of ALA....stuff is kinda pricey too.....

Anyone else think ALA would help the kidneys.....

Most bodybuilders walk around in a chronic state of mild acidosis. This state exacerbates kidney stones.

Add four ounces of wheatgrass to your diet each day, on an empty stomach.

Watermelon, green fresh spinach, and lemons. All good for keeping you alkaline.
