Cravings kick in after dinner :(

What can I do to help me stop craving after dinner? Everytime after dinner, I want to eat something sweet. Its not that im hungry or anything, its just that I think of something sweet, it pops into my head and I cant get the thought out :(

I read somewhere that St Johns wort helps with cravings? is this true and what exactly is it (capsules, pills, powder etc)?

Many thanks for your help

why deny the craving....eat a BITE of something sweet...nothing else

Snack size candy bars, or split something with someone else. Individual size puddings (like for kids lunches), jello, cool whip is great!

It's not the sweets that kill results - it OVEReating things.

Dont' sit down in front of the tv right after dinner. Go do something that will occupy your hands. Anything to distract from the habit of cravings.

Also what about including a small portion of sweet potatoe w/ some splenda on it? Sugar free jello? Sugar free ice pops?

On the same note as keeping yourself busy... come online and read this board when you get cravings... perhaps it will not only stop the cravings, but motivate you for the following day :)

LOL one draw back w/ that -- that's how I came to this board - trying to burn time between meals while prepping for a BB show. It was all good, except I started staying up waaaay late & screwing up my sleep / recovery time. LOL! Moderation in everything ...

I will eat a bite of something.....2 small Pbutter cups.....etc.

yah i put sweets in my mouth and im gone.. so i gotta stay away.. there is no piece of cake.. i eat the whole bloody thing

Yea, i'm going through a tough time w/ my cravings, especially around my mensus. I ate a 1/2gal. of low-fat choc. cookies n mint yogert in like 1 1/2hr. I just can't have one bowl like i used to years ago, i devour the entire box! I'm losing my discipline as i'm getting older i guess.

Try Sugar free jello, or Fat Free Sugar Free Pudding.

here's 2 snacks I make with my pudding:

make chocolate pudding with skim milk, mix in some cool whip, and peanuts, put it in the freezer, tastes like chocolate ice cream.
or
make pudding, cut up some almonds and mix them in.

Here's another one that got me thru my first BB show, when I coudln't take the ice pops anymore -- Tofu + protein mix pudding. You gotta try it once to get used to it, but its not bad. Cut up one of those hunks of firm tofu into 1/2 or 1/3, put it into a cup/ bowl & mush in a scoop of protein powder.

I dunno Sassy, that sounds kinda gross :goof: :RADAR

I know how you feel. I crave something sweet after lunch & dinner, than again around bed time. I cut Odyssey bars into little chunks & wrap them in foil. They have 3 wicked flavours that taste like real chocolate. They help to beat the cravings. Oh & they have 18gr protein, 24carbs (14 are sugar alcohols)

That's why I always throw in the caveat that you gotta get used to it. But if you look at the macronutrient counts on tofu, its good stuff. If you are deep into contest prep & you *GOTTA* have something, its a viable option that you won't pay dearly for.

For me I found that cold turkey is the BEST way. I'm an emotional eater. I eat when I'm bored, sad, happy, angry...

I am sweets junkie. When I was training very seriously and eating clean I started to eat non sugar snacks only. It tricked my brain and helped me break my sugar habit. Eventually I stopped craving sugar ALL together, even when I had my period...

Now, I'm back to square one...

But I know how to get back to getting results when I'm ready. : )

Hope this helped.

u know those lil p/b packets?? well...i get them for free, so i have one of those after dinner, it helps my sugar/salt cravings

My trainer milks his own cows, cultures the milk, and makes the most amazing yogurt. This stuff is medicine for the digestive system. Since I started taking a pint or so a day, I've had no sugar cravings. It works because it balances the candida in the gut. Candida feeds on sugar. If you have a lot of it in your system and you haven't fed it much sugar throughout the day, it's going to be starving. Hence, the evening sugar cravings. It has nothing to do with discipline. In my opinion, the best way to get rid of the candida is not to starve it, but to introduce good bacteria into the system and let them kill it for you.
