You could score round the top with a sharp knife, Or another idea I heard on here is to drill a hole under a shelf for the top to fit in and break it off that way.

just score it with a file and snap it off with your thumb

Take a bic pen cap and place it over the top.Bend and snap.

i do both, first score, then the bic pen cap thing. if you're really hard up, there are amp openers online.
