When I signed up for the Cox @home service those motherfuckers never told me about the 5 Meg file size limitation to outbound email. They allow you to use a different inbound mail server but you're restricted to their outbound mail server for all outbound emails. They purposely put a block on the outbound mail server and force you to use theirs. I want to be able to use my own outbound mail server that has no file size limitation to outbound email. Somehow I need to figure out how to bypass the block they have on their mail server. If someone can help me figure this out there's $50 in it for him or her. Please help!

That limitation isn't just Cox...most ISP's have a llmit and it's often 2MB. Otherwise you could kill a mailserver in heartbeat by sending a 25MB attachment to 1,000 users at once. They may have blocked your port 25 for incoming but not for outgoing mail. PM me your current IP address and I'll run a port scan.

Cox blocks port 25. If you can create an SSH tunnel from your server to uplink to a smart host you can do what you want. It's not an excersize for the meek. If you understood what I said, you can likely do it.

I have no idea what you're saying hence the reason for the thread. Like I said, if you or anyone can walk me through this process there's a fast $50 in it for you.

The bastards did block my port 25 for outbound mail only. I can use whatever mail server I want for inbound mail. I didn't have this problem with DSL. I could use any outbound mail server I wanted but not with Cox.

How did you determine they blocked your outbound 25? did you try more than one mailserver? It could be that you need identd (port 113?) to speed the negotiation up.

try downloading "HTTP Tunnel" and use your existing email. that might work.

you can also use www.sendthisfile.com and send larger files to people using this service. it's free if you use it a few times.

Thanks for the link. That seems to work as a temporary solution. How do i download the HTTP Tunnel?

Cox technical support told me that the port 25 is blocked and that I'd have to upgrade to their "business service" to remove the block and enlarge my mailbox. The price goes up considerably with their business service.

I got the same run around. They used to have a Home Office Professional account for $50 more per month where you got a static IP and all the ports open. Then they killed that too....idiots.

A special thanks to jnuts. He earned his $50!

Thanks again Bro.
