Watch Full Metal Jacket, it's very similar to that movie. Personally, I don't like people getting in my face and telling me that I'm a worthless piece of shit when I'm not allowed to say anything back to them except, "Sir yes sir."

Physically, no problem. But the yelling and shit...I'd boot-fuck the drill seargant and wind up in jail by the end of the first day.

You don't say 'sir yes sir' ... more like 'Yes Drill Sergeant!!!!'

no. i cant dumb myself down that much. that little voice telling me that its all complete bullshit no matter waht angle you look at it would never shut up.

youd have to be really stupid to put yourself through that, imo

Yes, I don't mean to be disrespectful, but very intelligent people do not normally do well under those circumstances, they always question authority. I don't know how the fuck I got in. I knew it was a mistake right away. I can be so smart, yet so stupid. More like too lazy to educate myself in certain matters.

My brother and father must be morons then. Personally, I am thankful for the "stupidity" of so many outstanding young men in this country. :)

Stupidity is all relative... Suppose an infantryman is not book smart, he will atleast be smart in the sense of survival, navigation, weaponry, discipline and everything else a soldier has to know. Now, if he is book smart, his soldier training makes him a much smarter person in a wider spectrum of areas. Most people who enter the military have a GED or college credit or a degree, and they are tested for drug use, and cannot be a convicted felon. They are also subjected through rigorous training and are therefore more fit than the average citizen. Using this logic, the US soldier is smarter, more disciplined, virtuous, and in better shape than the average citizen.

Also, don't forget that they get college paid for, have better benefits than most jobs, and are serving this great Country with their lives, which is the ultimate sacrifice and love that someone can give his or her Country.

:)

My "stupidity" was supposed to be read sarcastically.......

Yes, I agree. Probably so. Just those with very high i.q's do not fit in, for the same reason the police department will often not hire them. They always question everything.

Also remember, great, brilliant leaders come out of the military.

"You cannot be a leader, and ask other people to follow you, unless you know how to follow, too."

— Sam Rayburn

I could do the boot camp fairly easily. All you do is look at the guy next to you and think "if he can do it I can do it"....meanwhile he's looking at you thinking the same thing. I could never do BUDS training to become a SEAL....that's just hell.

I would last 5 seconds in boot camp. :worried:

My soulmate in so many ways. :)

They say bootcamp is 90% mental -- that involves coping with people screaming at you and calling you names all the time. You may be smart enough to realize it's all a game, but you also have to be smart enough to play along and do what you're told.

Nobody makes it though unless they want to be there. It's a means to and end.

BOOT CAMP IMO
It's much like buying a new car

If you realize the head games the dealership is going to play
And you don't fight it, but also don't get caught up in it
You will be successfull

I've always wanted to join the Marines b/c of their vigorous boot camp. I'd love the challenge of it all. I can't take orders for crap either, but it's a good way to learn some discipline. If I could do their boot camp w/out actually joining the Marines, I'd be right there!

When my s.o. went through he said a female DI threw him out of the van when he arrived at Parris Island...I thought that was awesome. I would make it all of 20 minutes...
