cortisol and lab work

Ok so been on trt for two years with majority being on the gel which didn't work . My uro had the balls to write that me being 28 at the time and having level of 400 was good, not so as I learned a natural 28 yr normal test is 600-800 and some as high as 1,000. Long story short my levels this Feb hit 165 which is piss poor, and I'm in the middle of switching dr's. I've done lab work on free test, testosterone total, estro, but never thought about asking for coritsol and or IGF. Can I actually ask for those or do I have to have a Dr, request them. I'm wondering because for years now even being on trt, I can't lose weight or sleep and feel something has to give.

Ask your doctor to write it up for you and get the blood work done that way. There's absolutely no reason why you can't request specific tests.

165 is definitely low. 400 not so much. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Total Test level of 400. Anything under 250 is considered 'low'. However the bottom line really is about whether or not you're seeing signs of Low-T. I'm sure being in the 160's, you're seeing them now.

Ok thanks bro, well I did some research and almost everything single piece of literature I found reported that a man's natural levels should be maintained at their age group. That being said 400 although not bad or horrible is low for a 31 yr and just seem to me be better in the 600's. Many friends I have spoken to said when their levels are kept in the 700's they feel more like they should. I can't sleep for nothing and I have tried benadryl and stay wide awake, lunesta, ambien, and even four diffrent type of insomina meds through dr's but nothing knocks me out and I average 4 hrs of sleep which I know is hindering my weight loss goals. That and having low trt, so it makes me wonder if something else is off like cortisol or IGF or what ever something isn't right. Thanks again for the info bro, I'll get my general Dr. to do them.
