Is it necessary to use a coffee filter when making your tren? Is the Whatman filter not sufficient enough?

Coffee filter is for the end when you have the remaining gunk on the bottom of the bottle to get 1 or 2 extra cc's.

Does it really make a very big difference on how clean the final product is?

Exactly what was said above. The coffee filter traps the big gunk and the whatman will catch the rest of the smaller particles. So to answer your question, the whatman by itself is not sufficient (or so I've read).

ya it just puts less stress on the whatman.. you do the cofee filter 1st then the whatman.. with the fina product..

You need to use the coffee filter as a prefilter to get out all of the bigger particles. You then use the whatman filter to take out the smallest particles. If you do not use the coffee filter, you will end up going through 2 or 3 whatman filters because they will clog up.

YOU DO NOT NEED THE COFFEE FILTER!!!

The whatman filter alone is fine. Neither filters sterilize the product, the ba does that.
As long as you take your time pushing thru the whatman filter, you will need nothing else.

Like the guys above said, it is to be used at the end IF you want to squeeze the last little bit of tren out of the remaining gunk.

You must then just draw off the solution off of the top of the solid precipitate and filter that, leaving the solid behind? I would think you are leaving quite a bit of tren behind when you are just drawing off the solution like that. After I filter through the coffee filter I get a lot of the liquid to drip through by squeezing the solid in the filter.
the one time i tried doing it the way you describe, the whatman got so clogged that I had to use 3 of them. On one of the filters I had to push so hard that the plunger on the syringe bent. Maybe you use a whatman filter that isnt as fine as the one in the kit I use?
