**CONVERTIBLES** Eclipse vs. Mustang....

Ok... I am half ass considering getting a convertible. I have no intentions of getting rid of my Benz, but I really do miss my old convertible (BMW Z3) for the time period of October-March in South Florida. It is simply awesome riding in the comfortable open air everywhere.
I don't care for another Z3 because it was a bit too small. So I am looking at Eclipses and Mustangs.
Give me the pros and cons of each.
As a note, I have to say I could care less about speed or other redneck tech shit like that. I ain't gonna be racing or revving.
I care more about mechanical quality, gas mileage, ride quality.

well without the speed factor, then a top of the line Eclipse will blow away a stang' in every other cat.
Ever been in a stang' the inside is very, how should I say...garabage.
The eclipse is nice, real nice just a tad pricey...I would also look at the 350z convert.
oh btw an Eclipse in any color but black is considered gay, now you can't have that.

go with the 330 convertable bmw. Bigger than the Z3 you had and a great ride. Not sure if you wanted to spend that much though...

actually don't buy the eclipse. the commercials for that car happen to be the most annoying ever. There was one where they play Dirty Vegas and there's some chick dancing in the car while her boyfriend looked on with approval. although she wasn't dancing, it was more like a full body dry-heave. I was very disturbed. If my chick pulled that shit in my car I would have kicked her funky ass out.
So normally I'd never recommend buying a ford, but in this instance I'm saying buy the Stang.

Get a Miata !!!! j/k....Far as looks, Stang conver looks better. Reliability toss up.... Mit engines arent that great, neither is Ford. If you don't plan driving that much , get the Stang, but often the Eclipse...Only convert i like is the CLK 430 Benz, but think you don't want another benz...

I always that the Eclispe was a girl's car. Not as much as a VW Cabriolet or Ford Focus, but close.

maybe check out an audi TT roadster as well? that'd be perfect because they're not that fast, but the reason causeing that is the Quattro.... which makes driving feel like flying... plus audis generally have tons of awesome features...

I have a regular Eclipse. I love it!! I wish I would have gotten the convertable but I couldn't afford it at the time. The inside of both cars(coup or convertable) are exactly the same. The back seat is really small. You can maybe fit one person back there comfortably. The cool thing is the seats fold down and you get plenty of cargo room. Good for beach stuff. My husband test drove both and he preferred the Eclipse over the Mustang.
On a side note, we have a corvette with a glass top that comes off. It's great! It's just as good as a convertable and they made the top a lot easier to come on and off then the old ones use to be. Good luck.

Now that I'm thinking about it, AAP, get yourself a classic. Say .... a 69 Camaro conv. You could find a damn nice one for like $15K. Cheaper, and IMO, much more goddamned better looking than today's automobiles.
Or, a 3rd gen. Corvette convertible. That'd be badass.
if you want ride quality and comfort, you cannot beat any of the general motors convertibles of the early/mid seventies.....buick lesabre, olds delta 88, chevy caprice.....all built on the same basic body. once you adjust to the overall size, these cars drive as well as anything coming out of a show room today, are drop dead reliable if restored correctly and are magnets for pick ups (guys or gals!)
i'm sure there are several restoration shops in the FTL area that have one for sale. even fully restored, they are a bargain next to any new convertible, and will only increase in value.
why have a common, everyday, dime a dozen mustang, benz or eclipse drop top? get a car that will draw as many envious, long stares as you do!!!!!
of course, to go over the top (no pun intended!), NOTHING beats a '76 cadillac eldorado convertible!!!!!

That said, get a Mustang. And don't cheap out and get the 6 cylinder because that's even gayer than a convertible Eclipse. You notice the only person who responded and said that they had an Eclipse was a female. Eclipses are chick cars. A 240lb hypertrophied guy(gay or not. heard you might be gay) belongs in a Mustang GT. The Cobra convertible will set you back upwards of $40K, but you can get a regular GT convert for mid 20s. You'll have fun in it. Yes, the interior is shit compared to an Eclipse, but you already have a Mercedes to provide you with those creature comforts. This car is for fun. Who gives two shits if the interior is straight plastic. Throw some flowmasters on it so that it sounds hard, and you'll be a happy guy.

no turbo, I bought it after selling my 95 RX-7 to get my through college.
Sure its not the fastest car on the road, but I do drive the thing as hard as possible. It's got 80k miles on it now, but still I get people telling me how great my car looks.
PIAAS, Rims, 5 percent black tint and exhaust helped make the car look good. I did all this back in 99' have not touched it since as I outgrew the rice phase. I don't have the money to get anything new now. but I am happy with this car.

it's been in the shop a few too many times for me to recommend it.
And it rattles.
My black Porsche Targa (long gone) was in the shop so much I named it Dracula.
When it drove, it flew like a bat out of hell, but most of the time it was in the shop drinking my life blood.
I'm looking at the BMW convertible, or a Mercedes convertible for my next.

How bout a sebring conv.. They' ve got plenty of room and are a nice ride.. not quite as cool on the hopped-up 2fast2furious meter.. but it doesnt sound like thats what you're going for..
plus if you're a big guy those cars will probably be too small.
My girls got an eclipse.. it is nice but not much leg room.. Im 6'3" and dont really fit in the eclipse or the mustang.

And I don't want a 70-80 model gas guzzler which you are taking a big mechanical risk when you buy as you never know what is wrong with the car.
Speaking of restoration... there is a shop here that builds "kit" cars for people. I have seen a few of theirs and it is awesome work. One looks like a modified Prowler... as good as the prowler looks, they made this look much tighter and hard.
I can't think of the name of that place... internet slueths... get cracking for Ft Lauderdale model cars...

If you are looking for a convertable under 30k, check out the Sebring or the Toyota Solara. Both will give you a little more room in the back seat for passengers.
The Honda S2000 is probably too small for you, same for the MR2 Spyder.
