Conversation in the gym yesterday

I saw a guy using the curl machine. I go up to him and say "Man, I wish I had brought my camera today." He says, "Why?" "So I could take a picture of you." "What for?" "Oh so I could post it on an internet site to show exactly how you should NOT use the curl machine."

why not just give the guy some help with some info. He could have just been a beginner and thought he actually had the form right.

Some people never had someone to workout with in the beginning to know the basics well. Luckily I had a good workout partner when I started

How well did he take that?

He was pissed but he's about 5'2" and 125# dripping wet so it's not like he would have doen much. He's ex-military though, but I guess he learned discretion is the better part of valor :)

You should go easy,...we all started out somewhere. A lot of guys, including myself, used to be that 125lb. soaking wet guy in back of the gym. I since graduated. Next time offer one of these guys some help, or a spot. I'm sure most of them would really appreciate it rather than ridecule.

Being the big guy is good, but that is not everything always, when it comes to drive and determination. Some littler guys starting out,...(some of these guys) put as much time and energy into their workouts pound per. pound as the big guys. Gym respect.

True true....i guess it depends...if u see someone do crazy deadlift assisted partner barbell curls.....all year...then i think a pic is in order...

I always have respect newbies who are trying to learn and do things right, but all the shmucks who've been around for years doing everything wrong and never making the effort to learn (because they think they know it all) can all go to hell in a handbasket. They're wasting valuable space in the gym and putting unnecessary wear and tear on the equipment.

nest time mind your own goddamn business............i was doing the best i could on that machine!

Pretty sure this guy falls into the latter category. He's about 50.

And just to let the cat out of the bag, this conversation took place in my head while I watched the guy. I never would say that in real life :p

I did something similar last night.. I just started doing a leg workout for the first time in like, close to ever, and I was doing seated calf raises on the machine that has the thing you twist after you raise the weight up, so that you can lower the weights down farther, and then you twist it back into the machine to hold the weights when your done.. well I didn't know about the twist deal, and I did 2 sets before some guy asked to work in, and he used it and I saw how you're supposed to operate it.. I felt like a freaking idiot. I'm glad he didn't rip on me :)

this coming outta someone who has yet to post any pic of himself.......

Dude... the only right way to use a "curl machine" is to fucking use it for scrap metal to make pins.

how do you fuck up form on a curling machine?

i guess anything's possible.....i see people using equipment in ways i would have never even pondered.....lol
