Conservatives and guns

Why is it that conservatives believe in laws regulating everything EXCEPT GUNS? They want to ban porn, place restrictions on music, close strip clubs, and require prayer in schools. But when it comes to dangerous weapons, they want no laws at all. It doesn't make any sense to me.

because they see people as generally evil. guns protect us from evil people. that's my take on it.

I like porn, strip clubs, no prayer, all kinds of music.... and I have a gun.

Many conservatives are not against porn, strip clubs, etc. They just feel that there should be laws to protect children and such from seeing stuff like that. You won't hear too many conservatives trying to ban porn, strip clubs or vulger music. They just want to make it more difficult for these things to get in the hands of the wrong people...same as guns.

I've never heard of these conservatives before. We must be talking about different conservatives.

They just feel that there should be laws to protect children and such from seeing stuff like that.

1. Conservatives are against regulating everything, except the things that you stated. I am a consevative, but I don't want to see those things regulated either. It's the very religious aspect of the Republican party (not the religious, but the VERY religious...devout) that wants to regulate morality. They can try, but it can't be done.

2. Teaching a ten year old to hunt is a bit premature unless you're talking a bb or pellet gun. That gets them started with basic safety. Now, at 12 years, it's time to get him or her shooting if he or she's interested. From this point they can be indoctrinated with proper weapon use, safety and care. You seem to think that teaching young people to shoot is so bad, yet these are by far the most responsible gun owners and users that I have ever known.

Quiet down, observe, listen, learn the reality of what's going on around you buddy.

Well, contrary to what you believe, these conservatives do exist. There are always extreme right wing conservatives, but they are a small minority. Just like there are extreme tree-hugging left-wing liberals. I live in a conservative state, and while many people don't support porn, strip clubs, or explicit music, no one is trying to have it banned. I would like for you to show me a case where a conservative was trying to ban this stuff completely. I see nothing wrong for a young man who has passed the hunter safety course to own a hunting rifle. 10 years old may be a liitle young, but as long as they have proven that they can be responsible with a gun, they should be allowed to own one. I wouldn't make it easily accesible to them, but if I want to take my 12 year old son hunting, there is nothing wrong with that. By taking away our right to bear arms, you will only take the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Criminals will have access to guns no matter what.

America's gun culture is rooted in the conservative, rural states. There's votes in the Republican's position, otherwise the Republicans would do a u-turn like both they and the Democrats have done on so many issues. In power the Republicans never met a gun control law they didn't like, as long as they don't take the heat with the voters. Check out Project SAFE, half a billion over two years to create "community outreach programs" to create new "gun violence programs" and rigorously enforce the gun laws they complained so much about. Don't bitch to me when your local community outreach program collects your gun for ballistic fingerprinting.

The fact that they can support one freedom while intruding increasingly on others is pure hypocrisy, but it reflects the hypocrisy of society, people get the politicians they deserve and most people are hypocrites.
