Damn straight.
I was wearing an Arnold for Governor shirt today and got so much shit from the mindless liberal sheep on campus. Nobody could explain to me why Arnold shouldn't be governor other than that he hasn't had any elected positions in politics.
Well, that was the reason/excuse people used why Jesse Jackson shouldn't run for President too but that's a whole nother ball of wax.
Then they say that the recall is BS and wasting money when they're already in a bad enough financial situation. But I then posed the scenario of recalling Bush and they all ate their words.
Ah, so anyway, Go Arnold!
The recall is BS for several reasons.
1. Darrel Issa started the recall campaign THREE MONTHS after Davis took office. People go on about Davis fucking up the state for five years. He got re-elected LAST YEAR so whatever fuckups he got committed 2-3 years ago the voters had apparently already forgiven him for, so that isn't why the recall started.
2. You can't say it started because of the illegal driver's license thing because Davis didn't support that until AFTER the recall effort was well underway. He voted against it twice before so I fully agree he changed his mind to pander to Hispanic voters. Bye the way, for the people who think giving illegals a drivers license is a national safety issue, do you realize twenty nine (29) other states ALREADY allow illegal aliens to get a driver's license.
Why the fucking hell do you think ALL OF A SUDDEN they're going to start flocking to Cali to get a license? You think they'll get a Glamour shot picture here? Think about it, folks.
I ask you - what did Gray Davis do in three months that warranted a recall effort starting? Answer = NOTHING! (he's fucked up countless times after it's started but that's a different show too) It's a right wing conspiracy by someone who was still pissed about the last election. Go ahead and say it. It's okay.......really it is.
3. The budget deficit - Well, you'll get little argument from me here but most states do have a budget defiicit now due to loss of revenue from the Feds. Our deficit is bigger than most (actually it's bigger than all the other states combined) but this is a technology heavy state. I bet the loss of jobs in Silicon Valley alone equals most states job loss. You can't blame the dotbomb but on Gray Davis. I'd like to blame somebody because I lost an $80K/year tech job in 2001.
4. Why do governors and presidents serve a 4-year term in the first place? It's SPECIFICALLY so they don't have to focus on short-term results at the expense of long-term security. We don't want a guy who has to pad the books and polish turds every year so he can serve another year. Sometimes a governor has to make difficult choices. We often have to take 1 step back in order to take 2 steps forward. If you yank the guy after taking 1 step back, the new guy comes in, takes 2 steps forward (from things the last guy put in place) and everybody goes SEE....I told ya that last guy was a moron!
If Arnold doesn't produce a balanced (or lesser) deficit in 12 month will the Repubs want to recall him? No, they'll scream "give him 4 year".
5. Electricity costs - yea, he really fucked up here but desperate situations lead to desperate measures.
6. Vehicle license fees tripling. Have you already forgotten than vehicle license fees were reduced to 1/3 in 1998? Have you forgotten than when they were reduced there a provision included to raise them back up if the deficit reached a certain point? Yes, Davis activated the increase......HE WAS SUPPOSED TO, NUMBNUTS! He did it to help close the deficit which you're crying about having in the first place.
Truth is I'm not really a Davis supporter. I moved to California in October '98. He's the only Cali governoer I've known so I have no basis for comparison. I'm just against the idea of a recall period. I can't stand Dubya but I don't want to recall him. I'm giving him four year to do what he sent out to do (then I want his ass out, LOL)
Disclaimer - I voted against the recall but for Arnold because the only thing I fear more than Gray Davis is Cruz Bustamove. I consider myself neither Republican nor Democrat, but simply a moderate. I have no problem for a moderate from either party.
