Computer ppl, assistance needed.

I need to know how to move some documents from one computer to another using a printer cable. Actually it doesn't even have to be a printer cable just anything that could directly connect the computers together (except the internet.)

Thanks

No Cat45 cable either?

Can't use a floppy disk or CD Burner?

If they are big files and your own boxes just put both hard drives in one box and then copy the files over.

not sure about the old computer having a cat45. i was thinking of using a cd. floppy disk would take years. i'm not sure of what materials i'm moving but i "think" its just corel documents. Anyone else with suggestions?

Not for sure, but can't you use a Bypass cat5 line (the orange one) to connect?
That might require a network card though. Of course if they were networked I guess you could transfer that way. Man I'm stupid, nevermind.

In order to do it via printer cable, you'd have to have a laplink kit.

A Cat5 crossover cable would work, but if you were networked, you'd just do it that way anyway.

I think a CD or Zip drive are your best bets.

Well it's all up to your preference..

you could install the network, then take it out later or you could hook hard drives up one as master one as slave and transfer that way.

Both are time consuming, but can be done.

Well...

If you've already got a crossover cable, sure. Depends on how much time you want to spend jacking with it. A CD might be faster.

Peer to peer networking with Windows 9X is a pain in the ass.

duh...can't believe I didn't think of that.

That's probably the best way.

I have never seen anyone have so many computer probs.

At least 50% of your C&C posts have the title "Computer ppl, assistance needed"

WTF are u doing to your machine???

BTW - ethernet cards are cheap & easy to install.

Too bad there's no such thing as CAT45.
We can only assume you meant CAT5 or CAT4.

If the computers don't have a network interface card you can go
buy a cheap null modem cable, and connect each end to the parallel or serial port on the back of the computers ( depending on what type of cable you bought, 25 pin one goes to the printer parallel port on each computer 9 pin connector goes to the smaller serial ports on each computer )

if you have windows 9x you can use a file transfer program in like start->programs->accessories I believe and it will use the null modem cable to transfer files between the computers

if you do decide to put network interface cards in , just get a crossover cable to connect the two together then you can setup a network and transfer the files

So not everyone agress that just putting the other HD in will make the process faster?

I think that's the fastest way to do it. No drivers to mess with, the system should recognize both drives with little hassle, and it's a hell of a lot faster than something like parallel or a null modem cable.
